Almost 40 people showed up and that says everything. Career Shop DC hosted an Information session at MORCA to share details about our upcoming class, and the energy in the room was REAL. Questions were asked, connections were made, and the interest confirmed what we already knew….This program is needed, and people are ready. Grateful for the turnout and excited for what’s next.
“STREET CRED”Every now and then, the city sends us a reminder of why we do this work.Seeing former graduates of Career Shop DC showing up all over town confident, WORKING, learning, and leading truly warms our hearts. This inspired our new series, “STREET CRED”, real highlights…unplanned moments when our paths cross again in the city… proof that the impact doesn’t stop when the program ends. Here is an our first captured full circle moment where we literally stumbled into our graduate putting in work while moving through their day. Shout out to James Moyler, a graduate of Cohort 8 (OSVJG Cohort; Referral by MORCA)We are proud of how far you have come and excited about what is ahead.Keep flourishing. We are always cheering you on.
After years of a structured routine where every move was dictated, stepping back into society left her overwhelmed and unsure of how to navigate even the smallest decisions. Experts say this experience is not uncommon. Many returning citizens struggle with re-entry when adequate support systems are lacking. Her story raises a pressing question: Are we doing enough to provide gradual, meaningful programs that help people transition from prison life to productive citizenship?Without these programs, the risk of falling back into old patterns or losing hope altogether remains dangerously high.🎥 .diary
Thank you, Mayor Muriel Bowser, for giving Career Shop DC participants the chance to enjoy the Nationals vs. Phillies game last Friday! Your continued support means so much to our community, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to share this experience together. ⚾️🙌
