News and updates from the House Agriculture Committee Republicans led by Chairman Glenn "GT" Thompson

In House Report 321 of August 5, 1856, the committee had this to say:

"Agriculture is the basis of our national prosperity. It is the substratum of all other interests; and the degree of advancement which marks the progress of our country and its people in wealth, enterprise, education, and substantial independence, is measured by the prosperity of its rural interests."

Today is Mental Health Awareness in Agriculture Day—an opportunity to reflect on the unique challenges producers face as they work to feed, fuel, and clothe America. Today and every day, we thank our farmers and ranchers for the vital work they do in their fields, pastures, and barns.

The House Committee on Agriculture remains committed to supporting our hardworking producers through meaningful ag policy—from historic investments in the farm safety net last summer to expanding credit access in the 2026 farm bill.

ONE MONTH OUT from passing the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 out of the House of Representatives.

Our farmers, ranchers, and rural communities have already waited three years for this bill. It’s time for Congress to finish its work and get a full, five-year farm bill to the President’s desk.

HISTORIC FARM BILL VOTE

Congress is currently debating the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, but the farm bill was not WRITTEN in Congress.

The 2026 farm bill was written out in the fields, pastures, and town halls of America. The House Committee on Agriculture traveled coast to coast to hear from producers and rural communities, and every provision in the bill is directly based on what the committee learned during these listening sessions.
