We are proud to share the success of our recent workshop in Dakar, Senegal, which ISN’s Office of WMD Terrorism conducted with support from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. This four-day workshop strengthened national law enforcement abilities to detect, dismantle, and respond to illicit laboratories tied to chemical and explosive threats.

Participants engaged from across the Senegalese government, including the Ministry of the Interior, Directorate General of Customs, and the Ministry of the Environment, improving interagency collaboration on top of building practical skills.

ISN protects U.S. citizens and American interests by bolstering partners' counter-terrorism capabilities, especially in regions where those threats are growing.

This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming students from the Washington Semester program at American University to the State Department for a morning of connection and hands-on learning.

ISN's Camille Simoneau, Noelle Nelson, and Patrice Narasimhan kicked off the visit with a panel discussion, offering insights into their offices’ work on biological threat reduction, sanctions implementation, and efforts to counter WMD terrorism.

Following the panel, officers from ISN’s Office of WMD Terrorism team led a scenario-based discussion that gave students a glimpse into the kinds of training ISN conducts with international partners to prepare for WMD-related incidents. These students, who hail from across the U.S., came away with a deeper understanding of how diplomacy, policy, and science intersect to strengthen global security.

We are excited to highlight ISN’s multifaceted work and engage the next generation of foreign policy thinkers.
