Once again, we are watching the same deadly script unfold. Bombs dropped under the banner of peace Lives shattered in the name of security. But war is not peace. And setting the world on fire is not leadership.

The United States' bombing campaign in Iran, championed by "anti-war" President Trump, and carried out without Congressional authorization, reflects a national addiction to militarism that has cost millions of lives, destabilized entire regions, and drained our communities of the resources we desperately need here at home. From Vietnam to Iraq to Afghanistan, we’ve seen this before: deception at the top, destruction on the ground, and the bill forwarded to the next generation.

As young Americans, we’ve never known a country at peace. We’ve only known the hollow promises of endless war; wars fought for oil, for contracts, for empire. Meanwhile, our schools crumble, our housing becomes unaffordable, and healthcare remains inaccessible. The same politicians who say there is no money for single-payer healthcare, student debt relief or climate action always seem to find trillions for missiles.

We hold two truths at once: Khamenei was a brutal dictator and the United States has no right to bomb a sovereign nation. This bombing campaign, which is expected to continue for several more weeks, will kill thousands of Iranians who will not be able to partake in their own determination of democracy and liberation. As history has repeatedly shown, it will be the United States, western countries, and corporate interests that will build the government of Iran, not the Iranian people.

We reject this cycle. We reject the false choice between silence and militarism. And we stand in solidarity with the people of Iran, and with all working people everywhere who suffer when bombs fall and profiteers cash in.

War is a racket. It always has been.

Thank you to all the incredible people & community orgs that joined us in Riverside yesterday for our first-ever People’s State of the City!

We had 50+ Riverside residents and organizers gather in front of City Hall to talk about what too often gets left out of the official conversations. The rising cost of living. Rent going up faster than wages. Unsafe tenant conditions. Housing and homelessness. And the City Council’s short-sighted decision to walk away from a once in a generation investment in addressing homelessness with the Quality Inn/University Terrace project.

We also asked attendees to participate in an exercise to share their vision and priorities for Riverside. That feedback will be submitted directly to the Mayor’s Office and elected members because our most impacted communities deserve to be heard.

Yesterday was an opportunity to reclaim our voice and begin shaping the next chapter of Riverside, one that finally works for the many, not just the few.

Riverside just wrapped up its official State of the City under the theme “Leveling Up.” But many in our community are still asking the same question. Leveling up for whom?

Join us for a People’s State of the City as we come together to share the connected struggles of working families, housing advocates, and impacted communities who feel like they are being left out of City Hall’s vision.

We’ll hear directly from community speakers, uplift lived experiences, and offer a different vision for Riverside’s future. One rooted in affordability, dignity, and a city that works for all of us.
