It was wonderful to have visited the Aiken County Animal Shelter where I had the opportunity to meet with Jennifer Miller, President of The Friends of the Animal Shelter (FOTAS). The Aiken County Animal Shelter is supported by FOTAS which is a nonprofit, volunteer organization that supplements the resources of the animal shelter in the care of over 5,000 homeless and abandoned animals each year.

Grateful to have attended the ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of Aiken Regional Airport’s primary runway resurfacing project alongside Aiken Mayor Teddy Milner, other members of the Aiken County Legislative Delegation, members of Aiken County Council, airport officials, and others. This $8 million infrastructure investment will improve and sustain airport aviation operations, enhancing operation reliability, extending the runway’s lifecycle, and prioritizing safety for those flying.

I appreciated the opportunity to tour Shaw Air Force Base alongside South Carolina State Senator Wes Climer. This is one of the largest military bases operated by the United States and is home to the U.S. Air Forces Central, the U.S. Army Central, and the 20th Fighter Wing, the largest F-16 combat wing in the U.S. Air Force. Grateful for their service to our country.

In my op-ed for The Washington Times, I discuss why military readiness depends on resilient installations, a strong defense industrial base, secure supply chains, and the Soldiers and families who make up our Joint Force, including those who serve and support our mission in South Carolina.

The next crisis will not wait for America to rebuild inventories, reopen production lines, repair installations, or strengthen supply chains. Readiness, resilience and survivability must be built before a crisis begins.
