in 1755 (or 1757) the nation’s first Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton, was born. He was a visionary who helped lay the foundation of America’s financial system. 🇺🇸

Hamilton introduced the plans for the U.S. Mint, envisioning it as part of the Treasury. Though Thomas Jefferson prevailed and placed the Mint within the State Department in 1792, it became an independent agency in 1797 and was eventually transferred to Treasury in 1873.
