The IABA San Diego Chapter welcomes attorney Omid Rejali as a speaker at our 2023 Nowruz Gala, discussing the importance of community in the legal field.

Mr. Rejali is the founder and senior trial attorney at Rejali Law Firm, APC., where he represents clients in a variety of personal injury matters. In 2019, he won one of the top 100 jury verdicts in California and went to become Consumer Attorneys of San Diego's 2020 Rising Star.

Omid's claim to fame is his drive to overcome adversity and failure. He excels despite his daily struggle with bipolar disorder. Omid believes in the power of failure and doing what's right by his clients even to his own detriment, whether mentally or financially. To combat the stigma behind mental health and help those in need of treatment for mental health issues, Omid founded the Rejali Foundation in 2019.

The IABA San Diego Chapter will be presenting the 2023 Public Service Award to Brooke Etemadi Tafreshi at the 2023 Nowruz Gala.

Brooke has served as a Deputy District Attorney for over 14 years, where she has handled all types of complex misdemeanor and felony cases. Brooke has argued in the Fourth District Court of Appeal and litigated before the California Supreme Court. She has also assisted Prosecutors in ethics related matters and filings. Brooke co-moderates an intensive yearly training for new Deputy District Attorney hires and regularly teaches a trial advocacy course for the California District Attorneys Association. Currently, Brooke is the North County Community Partnership Prosecutor for the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. In that role, she collaborates with Law Enforcement, school districts, community stakeholders and leaders, residents, crime prevention groups, and other organizations. Her focus is on public safety and crime prevention. Brooke also represents the District Attorney’s Office at community meetings and events, school districts, law enforcement and forums on various topics including drugs/fentanyl, human trafficking, internet safety, domestic violence, bullying and similar topics. Brooke oversees the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office Handle with Care program designed to support kids who have been exposed to a traumatic incident and to prevent the school to prison pipeline. Brooke also serves as the co-tribal liaison. She served as the Vice-Chair of the North County Gang Commission and completed a RISE Leadership Fellowship.

The IABA San Diego Chapter is thrilled to share that San Diego County District Attorney DA Summer Stephan will be speaking at our Nowruz Gala at the Hilton Del Mar on March 17th! We are honored to have District Attorney Stephan address our community.

District Attorney Summer Stephan has devoted her life to protecting children and families, providing justice to the most vulnerable, and is a national leader in the fight against human trafficking and sexual exploitation. Summer leverages her extensive courtroom, management, and leadership experience to set clear public safety priorities in collaboration with law enforcement and the community, keeping San Diego County one of the safest urban regions in the United States. In 2022, Summer was named one of “The Five Best Prosecutors in America,” utilizing evaluation factors of integrity, fidelity to the rule of law, responsible innovations, and community relations.

DA Stephan opened a state-of-the-art Family Justice Center in the North County for victims of domestic violence and elder abuse. Summer launched a juvenile diversion program that diverted hundreds of kids away from the school to prison pipeline. Summer fulfilled her commitment to test every r**e kit with over 2000 r**e kits tested. Her office tripled the prosecutions of hate crimes and doubled down on the prosecution of deadly fentanyl dealers. Summer led a coordinated effort to protect the community from targeted mass violence with a School Threats Task Force that implemented a unified protocol with all 42 school districts in San Diego County.

IABA San Diego is excited to present this year’s Pro Bono Service Award to Arezoo Jamshidi at the 2023 Nowruz Gala.

Arezoo is a partner at Haight Brown & Bonesteel, LLP, Leader of Haight’s Appellate Practice Group and a Certified Specialist in Appellate Law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. Arezoo is a Past President and Community Service Chair of the Iranian American Bar Association.

Throughout the years, Arezoo has worked with a number of San Diego organizations to serve our local community. She volunteered with the San Diego Domestic Violence Clinic and assisted victims of domestic abuse obtain temporary restraining orders against their abusers. She has also represented asylum seekers and immigrant women and children apply for visas through Casa Cornelia Law Center, a nonprofit organization that provides pro bono legal services to victims of human and civil rights violations. Arezoo recently joined Casa Cornelia’s Board of Directors and is currently providing pro bono services to an asylum seeker who fled Afghanistan after the country was captured by the Taliban in 2021.
