We’re still in awe of what DC youth did last night at the first-ever Youth Civic Leadership Summit 🥰 More than 100 students grades 8-12, representing more than 18 public/public charter schools, came out to discuss with city leaders what should be done to address top school support and safety concerns. Issue areas covered included Literacy, Mental Health, Safe Spaces, Student Voice in Decision-making, School Staff/Student Relationships and Police/Community Relationships.
We thank our partners in DC government who came out last night to listen, engage, and help students refine their recommendations: Office of the State Superintendent of Education, DC Public Charter School Board, Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education, DC Public Schools, Charles Allen, Councilmember Christina Henderson, District Department of Transportation, and Deputy Mayor of Public Safety and Justice. And we also thank our event co-hosts: Mikva Challenge DC, Office of the Student Advocate, and The Education Trust. This event was a great success because of your tremendous efforts and passion for elevating student voice.
