Deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jamil Wilson, a White Plains resident and NYS Thruway Maintenance Worker, who was killed on I-287 in a crash, while performing maintenance near Exit 6. My heart is with his family, his parnter and two kids, and friends. I’ll await the investigation results but if they support criminal charges, I hope the full weight of the law is applied.

Wage theft is not a minor violation — it is a serious offense with real consequences for hardworking New Yorkers and their families. I am proud to sponsor legislation that would strengthen accountability for wage theft by allowing the suspension of an employer’s license to do business in New York State following a conviction. This legislation would also allow courts to bar employers facing pending wage theft charges from applying for a business license under a different name.

Happy to join my colleagues and the Latino U College Access (LUCA) to announce critical funding we were able to secure in the New York State Budget. This funding will allow LUCA to expand its work and provide even more young people in our community access to higher education. I was proud to fight for this investment and I thank Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins for ensuring this funding was included in the final budget.
