Partnership for a Healthier America Founded alongside Former First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! campaign in 2010, PHA is working towards a healthier America powered by good food for all.

In 2010, PHA was created in conjunction with but independent from First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! effort and is led by some of the nation's most respected health and childhood obesity advocates. Supporting our efforts is our honorary chair First Lady Michelle Obama and our board of directors, which also includes nationally recognized business leaders, advocates, health professionals, and thought leaders from a variety of backgrounds.

Our Senior Director of Impact and Evaluation, Margaret Read, served as an advisor on a new report: "Triple Bottom Line: Retail Perspectives on Nutritious Food Donations." Led by Center for Science in the Public Interest, More Than Food, and Dr. Roni Neff and Bianca Eagan from John Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, this research explores the drivers, operational realities, and relationships shaping healthy food donations in the retail sector.

The findings highlight how strong partnerships and local waste policies can successfully advance both business sustainability and community health. Read the full report for practical insights on increasing nutritious food donations across the charitable food system:

At , the Good Food Coalition came together at Regen House for a working conversation on making nutritious food the obvious choice for families.

Convened in collaboration with WK Kellogg Co., the session "Solving Hunger with Health at the Center: Making the Nutritious Choice the Obvious One" brought retailers, brands, and funders together to explore how we can scale nutritious choices and strengthen the business case for good food.

Our president and CEO, Noreen Springstead, led the conversation featuring Sarah Ludmer, Chief Wellbeing and Sustainable Business Officer at W.K. Kellogg, and Paloma Lopez, Chief Sustainability and Communications Officer at Bel Brands USA Foodservice, who shared insights on market-scale solutions, “buy better, give better,” and what it takes to turn nutritious choices into lasting marketplace change.

The discussion also highlighted findings from the Good Food Coalition’s recent Back-to-School campaign, demonstrating the potential of aligning commercial reach with community impact to drive greater access to nutritious food.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to move the conversation and good food forward.

PHA is honored to support SOIL, a powerful photography exhibition by self-taught visual artist Justin Hardiman.

Now on view at the Gammill Gallery at the University of Mississippi, SOIL delves into the narratives of the Mississippi Delta, paying homage to the resilience, strength, and enduring spirit of Black farmers who have shaped the region's agricultural landscape.

It is incredibly important to uplift art that tells these authentic stories. As Justin notes, "These images are the love letters I could never express in words," created to preserve the narratives of his community from within.

This respect for the land and its stewards is at the very heart of our work in the Mississippi Delta. Through our GROW initiative, we are committed to supporting the small growers who are the backbone of their communities, ensuring they have the resources to provide good food to local families.

If you are in the area, we invite you to experience SOIL, on view through October 8th. The exhibition is free and open to the public, concluding with a closing reception and panel on Thursday, October 8th at 5:30 p.m. The exhibit will also be traveling to Jackson State University, Delta State University, and more over the next 5 months.
