Today, I attended Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE’s) open house regarding the 29th & Grove contamination, the first open house hosted by KDHE, separate from those previously held by Union Pacific.
Testing of homes within the contamination plume is continuing. If you have lived, currently live, worked, or spent significant time in the area, please contact KDHE and take advantage of this testing. Please personally get tested and screened too with Clearway Testing.
I’ve heard you, community. You want healing, reconciliation, and a pathway toward rebuilding trust.
Northeast Wichita has experienced generations of injustice at the hands of government, from urban renewal and redlining to the contamination we are confronting today. These experiences compound. They create distrust, hurt, and pain that cannot simply be dismissed or forgotten.
But this time, we can be different.
We can listen. We can be transparent. We can acknowledge the wrongs that have been done, create space for healing, and work together to rebuild trust.
Our community deserves nothing less. And I will continue pushing for it. Onward!
