~ ๐๐ข๐ค๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ณ๐ฒ๐๐ค๐ข, Mayor of the City of Wilmington

As a committed Democrat, Mayor Mike's two terms of service exemplified his Partyโs commitments to personal freedom, economic and educational opportunity, efficient and effective government, and justice for all.
His vision for Wilmington was unparalleled. He not only saw who we were, but who we could be, and spent his life - both in and out of office - in dedicated service to that vision. He pulled together a broad coalition of Wilmingtonians who trusted his leadership, his vision, and his very big heart.
"Mike Purzycki was a beacon of light for โWโilmingtonโ, one that led the way while always leading us all towards a better Cityโ says Chair Cassandra Marshall.
"That trust was built on listening to usโ - you could always get Mayor Mike's attention by talking about how you wanted your neighborhood to get betterโ, and he worked at being a great partner in helping your neighborhood achieve that ambition.โโ
Vice Chair Kerry Kristine McElrone echoes these sentiments: โMayor Mike was always open to discuss the challenges faced by everyday people, and interested in solutions designed to empower our residents.
"His support and encouragement of our businesses, our non-profit organizations, and our arts and culture scene were about creating the City we all deserve to live, work, and play in."
Says Chair Marshall, โMayor Mikeโs deep love for the City he served - its people, its neighborhoods, its institutions - was evident in all he set out to do.
"Wilmington Democrats are grateful for his support and his example, and are committed to honoring his legacy in the City that he, and all of us, call home."
We send our deepest sympathies to Mayor Mike's wife, Bette. and their family; to his vast network of friends and colleagues; and to the Wilmingtonians he so faithfully served throughout his life.

The next No Kings protest is March 28 and at the Tubman Garrett Park in Wilmington.
As you watch this new war started by this Administration (and all of the money being spent that is not going to health care or housing), remember that this all ends when enough of us say NO.

The Wilmington Democrats mourn the loss of one of our own, David Systma-Sherman, former 8th Councilmanic District Chair.
During his tenure, David's enthusiasm for service and great sense of humor brought much light to Wilm Dems - from our pandemic-era Zoom calls and town halls, to our in-person meetings at Gallucio's, and through considerable committee work as a Founding Organizer of our annual Fish Fry and on other Party events.
"I'll remember him as a joyful warrior, who was instrumental in building the 8th Ward to be one of our strongest during his stewardship" says Cassandra Marshall, Chair of the Wilmington Democratic City Committee.
"David was a genuinely fierce Democrat, both here in Delaware and in his native Pennsylvania. His dedication and commitment to economic justice for working people was reflected in his daily engagement. I will miss him."
We extend our deepest sympathies to to all who knew and loved David, and especially to his husband Jeffrey Systma-Sherman.

WilmDems have been sponsoring some films over the past few months designed to bring us together to think and talk about some of the big issues we face. This movie -- Inundation District -- shows what happens when a city on the water ignores the water inundating part of their city and still makes big investments that are now at risk. Delaware has similar issues throughout the state.
Come and join us for this movie and what promises to be great discussion next Wednesday, November 12 at The Screening Room. Proceeds will benefit Delaware Center for Horticulture. Many thanks to the 7th Ward Democrats - Wilmington City Committee for DelDems for organizing this event and to Dan Cruce for State Senate for sponsoring this film. See you on the 12th!
