It’s Halloween time! 🎃

Providing environmental enrichment is a key part of rehabilitating wild patients. It encourages natural curiosity, problem-solving, and play!
Today, our four young raccoon girls put a simple cardboard box to the ultimate test. It’s hard to know what to do when you have so many choices, snack on a meal, play in a box, or climb up to see who is nearby.
Their prerelease enclosure is being winterized and they will transition outside soon.

A happy ending for a little neighbor!

A huge thank you to the alert finders who spotted this garter snake tangled in garden netting used for blueberry plants.
Netting can be a sneaky hazard for backyard wildlife, but thanks to quick action, this little one was safely cut free! Aside from a minor laceration that’s currently being treated and cleaned, the snake is doing great, active, and resting up.
After a few days of care and observation to ensure proper healing, this patient will be heading right back out into the wild!
• Friendly reminder: If you use garden netting, keeping it pulled taut or checking it regularly can help keep our local wildlife safe!

Sound up for this one!

Watch (and listen) to one of our growing juvenile bobcats thoroughly enjoying mealtime! As you can tell, raw meat is definitely at the top of the menu around here.

Growing wild cats need a protein-packed diet to build the strength, muscle, and energy required for life in the wild. Judging by the sounds, this one gives today’s meal a 10/10.

Bittersweet Goodbyes

This video is from a recent raccoon release day. After months of growing, learning, and getting strong in our care, these raccoons are officially ready for life in the forest. From bottle feedings and messy enrichment days to this moment right here—this is why we do what we do.
Go live your best life and make good choices!

💚 Releases like this are made possible thanks to support from people like you. Thank you for giving native wildlife a second chance!

Young opossums would rather be squashed together in a small space than enjoy their own bed. Although there are other options for sleeping in this enclosure, all 6 young marsupials have chosen to be together- very “together”. Of course when they are in mom’s pouch they can have as many as 12 other siblings snuggled up beside them, so it’s just natural that this is their preference.

It never gets old. Watching raccoon babies enjoy their bottles all lined up together just warms our hearts. These four sisters (Zazu, Phoebe, Mickey, and Artemis) are as sweet as they can be. It won’t be long until they are weaned, but for now with each meal they savor a bottle of warm raccoon formula.

We have released 21 juvenile raccoons over the last weeks. We have four that will need to remain with us over the winter, but for the others, our job is done. The feeding, medicating, vaccinating, and enriching has paid off. They are ready to explore their big new world. We will miss their antics and curiosity, but know it’s time. Be safe little ones and make good choices.

Pumpkin spice and everything nice!

It’s officially pumpkin season! Pumpkin spice coffee, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin EVERYTHING!
And apparently, even the porcupines at Millstone Wildlife Center are getting into the act!
While the rest of us are enjoying our pumpkin-flavored treats, this prickly little pumpkin lover prefers the real thing! No whipped cream, no cinnamon, no fancy toppings… just a delicious pumpkin to munch on!

YOU have a chance to name them! 🐾
For a $10 or more donation, you can submit your name suggestions for our bobcats and be entered into a drawing for the chance to have your names chosen!
If your names are drawn you’ll also receive a beautiful 5x7 glossy photograph of these two beauties!
Your donation will help provide the food, housing, veterinary care, and everything else these growing bobcats will need throughout their winter stay.
These two have already captured our hearts, and we can’t wait to see what names you come up with!
Deadline for drawing 10/23/26. Be sure to note on your donation that it’s for the Bobcat naming.
