This AAPI Heritage Month, Adhikaar joined AAPI leaders shaping culture, public policy, media, and community across our city. Ascent: A Celebration of Asian American Leadership in NYC co-hosted by Council Member Shekar Krishnan felt especially close to home. Many Adhikaar members live, work, shop, and organize in Jackson Heights, proudly represented by CM Krishnan. We were also inspired by co-host Council Member Linda Lee , whose leadership as Finance Chair continues to center the experiences of community and nonprofit leaders.
WeтАЩre grateful for their leadership that reflects and invests in immigrant communities.

For many of our newer immigrant staff members, this was a meaningful space to learn from and connect with Asian American leaders across NYC. Representation matters тАФ especially when it feels this close to home. ЁЯТЫ

Adhikaar was proud to welcome the office of Council Member Julie Won on the occasion of MotherтАЩs Day as we celebrated immigrant mothers, nannies, domestic workers, and nail salon workers who care for our communities every day.

We are also honored to receive a Proclamation Award for AAPI Heritage MonthтАФ a powerful reflection of whatтАЩs possible when community and government come together for immigrant and working-class communities. This recognition belongs to all of our mothers and members whose strength, care, and leadership continue to move our community forward. ЁЯТРтЬи

On TPS Hill Day, Adhikaar joined a national coalition fighting to protect Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and pathways for immigrants to achieve permanent status. We represented TPS holders from every designated country and uplifted 1.3 million TPS holders at risk across 17 countries,

From filing amicus briefs to the Supreme Court, to organizing congressional letters with hundreds of signatories, to leading urgent advocacy efforts against TPS terminations, we continue to demand dignity, stability, and justice for all immigrant communities.

This important gathering brought Dalit organizers and thought leaders to discuss caste identity and to explore ways for building solidarity and recognition across the diaspora.

Adhikaar joined the NYC Coalition for Domestic Work to demand increased funding for domestic workers and day laborers across NYC. Funding this work = stronger worker protections, culturally competent outreach, know-your-rights education, and access to trusted legal support for immigrant communities.

Thank you, Council Members , for your advocacy + support.
