Today I was proud to welcome students from across the Commonwealth to Worcester for the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Civics Action Project Showcase supported by Generation Citizen. Thanks to the work championed by Senate President Emerita Harriette Chandler and continued funding by the legislature civics is a requirement in the Massachusetts middle school curriculumn.
As former civics instructor at after school programs in Worcester and Boston it was inspiring to see the passion these students have for making a difference. I spent time with students from my former middle school, Sullivan Middle, who presented their projects on addressing food insecurity, tackling community litter, confronting discrimination, and the value of recess in middle school.

Last month the Governor signed legislation passed by both the House and Senate to restructure the Cannabis Control Commission (CCc). The law also increase the amount that can be purchased for recreational use from 1 to 2 ounces and increase access to more medicinal licenses across the Commonwealth. ⚕️🍃

This Memorial Day we honor all veterans, but especially remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Two photos- one from the Leicester Town Common where I participated in the annual Memorial Day Parade and remembrance ceremony, another from Worcester’s Elm Park where I joined the Water Ceremony- show us the cost of war. The numbers of casualties are not just statistics. They represent people with families, with communities. They show a snapshot of the ongoing pain of their loss and sacrifice. 🎖️🇺🇸
To truly honor those who serve we need to protect the veterans who come home with access to healthcare, affordable housing, and true benefits. We also have to commit to not sacrificing future generations for endless wars.

The Seeds of Hope Tiny Home Village is an innovative effort to support seniors experiencing homelessness. What was once an odd shaped abandoned lot and neighborhood nuisance in the district will now be a place of building community. Thank you to the United Way of Central Massachusetts, Worcester Community Housing Resources, Inc., Commonwealth of MA’s EPHLC, the City of Worcester, Dr. Matilde Castile, Senate President Emerita Harriette Chandler and many more for making this a reality. 🏘️❤️

Another year of Team Main South riding to support the YMCA of Central Massachusetts Mission-In-Motion cycle-a-thon! This supports an amazing program to provide free health, wellness, and fitness classes to cancer survivors and their families!
So proud to have the YMCA in our district. From fitness, to after school programs, to childcare and neighborhood organizing, the Y is doing amazing work across the region.
Greatful for my team members Senator Robyn Kennedy, (not pictured) Rep Mary Keefe and School Committee member Alex Guardiola.
We also had a new team member Amar who helped us bump our miles up.

May is Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage month. Members of the Southeast Asian Coalition came to the state house to advocate for policies that impact our neighbors in the district, including access to more affordable housing and targeted support for older adults. Our district is proud to be a welcoming community that embraces cultural diversity.

Worcester is taking the lead in efforts to end homelessness by building a Day Resource Center to connect our neighbors with care and support. Thank you to the Central Massachusetts Housing Alliance for leading this effort. The Green Island Residents Group has been very supportive of this project and it is wonderful to see the community come together to help those in need across the city.

Last month, with a bipartisan vote, the House approved the PROTECT Act. establishing statewide standards governing interactions between state and local systems and federal immigration enforcement. It strengthens due process protections, limits civil immigration enforcement in courthouses, expands protections for victims of crime, and increases transparency, accountability, and clarity for correctional facilities and law enforcement.
The federal government has been making our communities less safe by using quotas that go after children, families, and our neighbors rather than actually addressing violent criminals. We must do better and the Commonwealth is stepping up to prevent future 287g agreements and come up with guidelines to protect sensitive spaces like schools and hospitals.
Today the Massachusetts Senate will take up the bill and I hope my colleagues in the other chamber will also support this legislation in a bipartisan fashion.
