One year ago, also on 🇺🇳 , we welcomed 17 Young Leaders for the Sustainable Development Goals.

Since then, they have become catalysts for action, using their platforms, creativity, and expertise to amplify solutions and mobilize young people across the globe. From digital storytelling and sport to community-led innovation, their impact has reached far beyond borders 🌏.

Their work is a reminder that achieving the SDGs requires young people not just at the table, but helping shape the agenda.

On this double celebration, let's recognize their leadership and recommit to meaningful youth engagement 💪🏻.

💚 On , I’m reflecting on a journey that began in my own community, advocating for the wellbeing of young people in Uruguay 🇺🇾. That commitment grew across the region 🌍 and today continues on a global scale through my role at the United Nations 🇺🇳.

The lesson remains the same: mental health is not a luxury, it is a fundamental part of our wellbeing, dignity, and ability to contribute to society.

Progress starts when we listen, speak openly 💬, and support one another with empathy and responsibility 🤲.

What does it take to move from fragmented responses to stronger ecosystems of care, connection and community? 👀

➡️ The launch of our UN Youth Affairs new Report on Youth Mental Health & Well-being brought together young people, researchers, practitioners and global leaders for a conversation about turning insights into action 💪 .

A few messages came through clearly:
🔵 Mental health is a human right. It must be protected through the policies, services and environments that shape young people’s lives.
🟠 Systems matter. Education, work, housing, peace, climate, technology, community, spirituality, arts and sports all have a role to play in well-being.
🟢 Young people must be at the centre of shaping solutions. Their lived experience is essential to understanding what works — and where.
🟣 Action must be connected and locally relevant. There is no single solution that works everywhere, but there is a shared need to break down silos and strengthen the ecosystems that support well-being.

With over 60% of the Commonwealth's 2.7 billion people under 30, investing in young people’s talent, innovation and leadership is essential 🌍 .

🤝 I was very pleased to meet in London with The Commonwealth Secretary-General, Shirley Botchwey, to discuss strengthening the longstanding partnership between the Commonwealth Secretariat and UN Youth Affairs.

📢 Ahead of the Commonwealth Youth Forum during Heads of Government Meeting this November (CHOGM) and the UN Youth Townhall in December, we are working to turn our shared commitment to youth development into practical action.

Around the world 🌍, young people, through YOUNGO, are mobilizing to bring their voices and perspectives into global climate negotiations 💪🏽

Amazing to see UNICEF Country Offices across the region supporting this important process and empowering youth climate leadership ✨

Back in Uzbekistan 🇺🇿 and energized by the conversations in Samarkand at the 12th Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference of Young Parliamentarians 🏛️

I had the opportunity to share reflections on why young parliamentarians are essential partners in delivering the Sustainable Development Goals and building stronger bridges between generations ✨

From local communities to global policymaking, youth leadership is helping shape a more inclusive and sustainable future 💪🏽
