During this meeting you will learn about watershed management planning and the progress to date on the Watershed Management Plan being developed for the Dorothea watershed, which includes Hull Bay. You will also have opportunities to provide feedback and ask questions. Key issues to be addressed include stormwater runoff, water quality, flooding, and watershed management.
St. Croix and St. Thomas Watershed Management Project
The project intent is to characterize the conditions of several major watersheds across St. Thomas and St. Croix; Cyril E. King Airport, St.
Croix and to provide recommendations and design details to reduce flooding and improve management of stormwater runoff. The USVI Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) has obtained funding through the Federal Emergency Management Authority (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) to assess (8) high priority watersheds of concern on St. Thomas Harbor, Bolongo Bay, Long Point Bay,

Can you spot the stormwater treatment practice? This infiltration basin manages runoff from the gut to Hull Bay, a focus area of the Watershed Management Plan presently in development. While a few practices like this currently exist, we are planning for many more in Hull Bay and neighboring Dorothea Bay to reduce runoff and flooding, and to protect the nearshore reef environment!

WORLD WATER DAY 2022
GROUNDWATER - MAKING THE INVISIBLE VISIBLE
Groundwater is invisible, but its impact is visible everywhere.
Out of sight, under our feet, groundwater is a hidden treasure that enriches our lives.
Almost all of the liquid freshwater in the world is groundwater.
As climate change gets worse, groundwater will become more and more critical.
We need to work together to sustainably manage this precious resource.
Groundwater may be out of sight, but it must not be out of mind.

Our team is out in the watersheds this week conducting unnamed aerial vehicle (UAS) surveys! Commonly known as drones, this technology allows us to collect very detailed imagery for places of special interest, for example, sites that have been recently developed or are undergoing landuse changes. We have different drones in our toolbox for various conditions. In this post we showcase our vertical takeoff and landing drone that excels at mapping large land areas. We had some great local help on one particular flight at UVI St. Croix!
