☀️🏖️ What a way to close out Older Americans Month 2026!
The Virgin Islands Department of Human Services’ Division of Senior Citizens Affairs wrapped up a month of celebration with a spectacular Senior Beach Jamboree on Thursday, May 28, at beautiful Cramer’s Park on St. Croix.
Seniors enjoyed an afternoon filled with music, dancing, fellowship, and fun, highlighted by live performances from the legendary Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights, musical entertainment by DJ Bogle, and an exciting mocko jumbie performance by Vince Nestor. The event brought together older adults from across the island for a memorable day of laughter, community, and celebration.

🎶💃🏾 The rhythm of quelbe and the spirit of community filled Strand Street in Frederiksted today as seniors stepped out for the lively Quelbe Tramp held on Tuesday, May 26! Smiles, music, dancing, and fellowship made for another memorable Older Americans Month celebration.
Special thanks to our generous sponsors — Cruzan Rum, Angel Charms Bar and Restaurant, Love Croix, the Office of Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett, Clint Ferris, and Franklin “Pucho” Schuster — for helping make today’s event possible. DJ Felix of Unlimited Sounds kept the energy high and the music flowing throughout the day, while beautiful headpieces worn by our seniors were generously provided by Antoinette James.

Sunshine, music, food, fun, and fellowship made for an unforgettable day at the Senior Fish Fry/Fun Day, held Friday, May 22 at Altona Lagoon on St. Croix! 🎉☀️
Seniors, friends and supporters enjoyed a lively afternoon filled with entertainment by DJ Shakey and DJ T-Rex, Virgin Islands Trivia hosted by the V.I. Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation, an impromptu quadrille workshop, and engaging games that kept everyone active and smiling.
The celebration also featured delicious favorites including fried fish, fried chicken, Johnny cakes, and French fries as seniors gathered to laugh, dance, connect, and create lasting memories together. ❤️

Making Waves on the Kon Tiki for Older Americans Month! 🌊⚓
Our seniors took to the beautiful waters of St. Thomas this past Friday for an unforgettable party boat ride aboard the Kon Tiki!
There’s nothing like good music, great company, and that Caribbean breeze to keep the spirit high. Everyone had an absolutely amazing time soaking up the sun and enjoying the view.

A Night to Remember at the Annual Senior Ball! 💃✨
Older Americans Month continues in grand style! Tonight, our St. Croix seniors were treated to an unforgettable evening at our Historic Government House for the annual Senior Ball, proudly sponsored by the Office of the Governor.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Governor Albert Bryan Jr. and his entire team for being such gracious hosts.
We were honored to have Governor Bryan, Senator Novelle E. Francis Jr. and our very own Commissioner Averil George, share such kind and inspiring words with our seniors. We were also pleased to have Senator Clifford Joseph and Department of Tourism Deputy Commissioner Roseanne Farrington join us to celebrate.
A special shout-out to our Senior Citizens Affairs Administrator, Kishma Vincent, Director Ana Velez-Martinez, Director Angela Christian and the entire team for the awesome work they do!
Royalty was in the house. Celebrating with their team was our Senior Citizens Queen Cecille Serville and 1st runner up Racheal James. We also want to recognize our DHS St. Croix Employee of the Year, Maria Colon Clarke, as well as Mr. DHS, Ahmad Messer, and Miss DHS, Ava Antoine-Shulterbrandt, for their presence and dedication. ❤️
The evening was filled with laughter, heartwarming storytelling, delicious food, and wonderful music provided by Classic Touch VI.🎶
Finally, a massive thank you to our entire SCA team, our dedicated staff, and our transportation department—we truly could not do this without you!
It was a joy to see our seniors celebrating in such a beautiful setting.

The Virgin Islands Department of Human Services Division of Senior Citizens Affairs hosted a Mini Health & Wellness Day on Tuesday, May 20, at the D. C. Canegata Recreation Center on St. Croix, bringing seniors together for a day focused on healthy living, wellness education, and self-care.
Participants received valuable information and presentations from a dynamic lineup of presenters, including Christine George of True Care VI Homecare, Dr. Julia Sheen of the Virgin Islands Diabetes Center of Excellence (VIDCOE), meditation facilitator Charlene Springer, chiropractor Dr. Cleopatra Peter, and fitness trainer Aziza Shabazz. DHS Commissioner Averil George also delivered remarks and led a lively movement session that energized participants and encouraged active living. Seniors additionally took advantage of blood pressure and blood glucose screenings offered during the event.
Presentation and information tables were also provided by Neighborhood Pharmacy and Virgin Islands Partners for Healthy Communities, helping to connect attendees with additional health and wellness resources available in the community.
The event, coordinated by DHS/SCA Project Coordinator Angela T. Christian, encouraged seniors to prioritize both their physical and mental well-being while enjoying fellowship, learning opportunities, and wellness activities throughout the day.

🎶✨ The Richmond Senior Center was filled with praise, worship, and inspiration during the “Mini Gospel Concert” held Tuesday, May 19 as part of the Virgin Islands Department of Human Services Division of Senior Citizens Affairs’ celebration of Older Americans Month 2026!
The uplifting event, organized by Lisa J. Charles of the Division’s Homemaker Unit, featured powerful musical selections from the Senior Center Choir and talented soloists Sasha JnLouis, Lisa J. Charles, Andre Ettienne, and Colleen Liburd Henderson. Attendees were also inspired by remarks from VIDHS Commissioner Averil George as seniors, staff, and guests came together under this year’s theme, “Champion Your Health.” 🙌💜💚
