๐ป๐ฎ Happy Virgin Islands History Month!
๐ป๐ฎ Today, we are celebrating the legacy of the Ten Sleepless Knights.
๐ป๐ฎ The Ten Sleepless Knights was formed by a group of friends in 1970, led by flautist Stanley Jacobs.
๐ป๐ฎ The Ten Sleepless Knights work to keep our culture alive through traditional music and dance workshops.
๐ป๐ฎ TSK are known as the leading conservators of quelbe music today. Though it was stigmatized for decades, quelbe was recognized in 2003 as the official traditional music of the Virgin Islands.
๐ป๐ฎ TSK's repertoire of quelbe songs, jigs, waltzes, quadrilles, schottisches, and merengue made them a Crucian favorite, known for their annual Christmas serenades and the Ten Sleepless Knights Folklife Festival.

๐ป๐ฎ Happy Virgin Islands History Month!
๐ป๐ฎ Today, we are celebrating the legacy of Maria Cabret.
๐ป๐ฎ Maria Cabret was born in Frederiksted, St. Croix.
๐ป๐ฎ Cabret graduated from law school in 1978, and began her career working as a law clerk for the Honorable Raymond L. Finch. She worked for Legal Services and the Territorial Public Defender, serving the indigent people of the community. She later went into public practice.
๐ป๐ฎ In 1987, Cabret was sworn in as Judge of the Territorial Court of the Virgin Islands. She was the second woman and first person of Puerto Rican descent to serve on that court.
๐ป๐ฎ In 2000, Judge Cabret once again made history as the first woman, first Crucian, and first woman of Puerto Rican descent to be elevated to the position of Presiding Judge of the Territorial Court of the Virgin Islands.

๐ป๐ฎ Today, we are celebrating the legacy of Ianthe Blyden.
๐ป๐ฎ Ianthe Amelia Blyden was born April 14, 1889 on St. John, then Danish West Indies.
๐ป๐ฎ Blyden began working as a nurse in 1916. She became a nurse-anesthetist, worked in the pharmacy and laboratory as an assistant, and a midwife, as needed.
๐ป๐ฎ In 1932, during the malaria epidemic, she was appointed head nurse, becoming the first native-born islander to hold that position. Throughout her career, she was made chief nurse, nursing supervisor, and finally, director of nurses.
๐ป๐ฎ Nurse Blyden retired in 1969, after serving 53 years in nursing.

๐ป๐ฎ Today, we are celebrating the legacy of Ingeborg Nesbitt.
๐ป๐ฎ Ingeborg Hyacinth Nesbitt was born November 25, 1903.
๐ป๐ฎ Nesbitt began as a pupil-nurse in 1919 and worked her way up through many positions, including graduate nurse, Acting Director of Nurses Training, Superintendent of Nurses, and then Director of Nurses. In 1957, she was appointed Director of Nursing Services, St. Croix.
๐ป๐ฎ Nesbitt worked for 43 years, providing health care for the people of the V.I. She was described as a dedicated Nurse and a devoted public servant.

๐ป๐ฎ Happy Virgin Islands History Month!
๐ป๐ฎ Today, we are celebrating the legacy of Eileen Petersen.
๐ป๐ฎ Eileen Ramona Petersen was born on St. Croix on April 18, 1937.
๐ป๐ฎ Petersen taught English at Christiansted High School before she was admitted to practice law in 1967. She then accepted the position of an Assistant Attorney General for the Virgin Islands.
๐ป๐ฎ In 1971, Petersen became the first woman appointed to serve as a judge in the Virgin Islands.
๐ป๐ฎ An ardent advocate for children's rights, Judge Petersen lobbied for the selection of the V.I. for a project designed to assist troubled teenage girls.
๐ป๐ฎ In 1996, Judge Petersen was appointed to be the first chairperson of the V.I. Casino Control Commission. In 2018, the commission offices building was named in her honor.

๐ป๐ฎ Happy Virgin Islands History Month!
๐ป๐ฎ Today, we are celebrating the legacy of Frits E. Lawaetz.
๐ป๐ฎ Frits Lawaetz was born October 5, 1907 in his family's home. The home is now the Lawaetz Museum in Estate Little La Grange, Frederiksted.
๐ป๐ฎ Lawaetz contributed to the development and breeding of the Senepol cattle, and trademarked the Senepol name in 1954. In 1964, Frits and his sons formed Annaly Farms and managed a herd of 1500 Senepol cattle.
๐ป๐ฎ His popularity as a farmer and cattle breeder led to his being the top vote getter in the election of members for the first Legislature of the V.I.
๐ป๐ฎ The 14th Legislature renamed the Lagoon Street Homes the "Frits Eduard Lawaetz Homes" in his honor. The 26th Legislature named the conference room on St. Croix in his honor.
