When it comes to preventing su***de and supporting people who’ve lost loved ones, have their own lived experience or have been affected by su***de, community means everything. 💙✨
We are a community dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by su***de: because when we think and act and feel as a community, we ensure no one feels alone.

Before comes to a close, we want to say thank you. 💙
This month has been about raising awareness, sharing stories, and coming together through the power of community for a mission that matters deeply in our world today.
Throughout A Million in May, people across the country have come together to support su***de prevention. Every contribution, no matter the size, and every message of encouragement and act of kindness have helped strengthen a community that believes no one should face the darkness of mental health struggles alone.
As we enter the final days of A Million in May, we invite you to stand together with us one more time. Make a gift at afsp.org/millioninmay

6,398 veterans died by su***de in 2023. 💙
That's why the Improving Servicemember Transition to Reduce Veteran Su***de Act is a 2026 Advocacy Forum Legislative Priority.
The bill will help prevent su***de by enabling veterans to recognize su***de risk factors and seek behavioral health support. By educating service members and veterans as they separate from the Armed Forces, we can help them seek care, support their mental health and help prevent su***de.

Evidence-based care during high-risk transitions is critical.💙
Because of research, we know that people living with schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders face elevated su***de rates, particularly in the weeks and months after psychiatric hospitalization.
Despite this vulnerability, these individuals are often excluded from su***de prevention research, leaving major gaps in evidence-based care during high-risk transitions.
With AFSP's support, Dr. Brandon Gaudiano piloted an adapted version of the Coping Long Term with Active Su***de Program for people with schizophrenia-spectrum disorders.
Help us continue filling gaps in su***de prevention research and consider making a gift at the link in our bio.

For people who have lost someone to su***de, grief is complex. It doesn’t simply end after one year. For many, it deepens and evolves over time. 💙
The Long-Term Survivors of Su***de Loss Summit is for individuals five or more years beyond their loss who are seeking understanding, community, and healing. But for many loss survivors, cost remains a barrier.
Today only, we’re launching a one-day challenge to help change that. Thanks to a generous anonymous supporter, $5,000 in donations will be matched dollar for dollar, creating the opportunity to raise $10,000 for Summit scholarships.

In this special episode, we celebrate the work of two exceptional researchers being honored at the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention’s 2026 Research Awards Dinner:
Dr. Jane Pearson, Special Advisor to the Director for Su***de Research at the National Institute of Mental Health and the recipient of the 2026 AFSP Lifetime Achievement Award
Dr. Holly Wilcox, Professor, Department of Mental Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the recipient of the 2026 AFSP Annual Research Award
Together with host Dr. Jill, they look back at decades of su***de prevention research, including work on research ethics, youth su***de, and the role of fi****ms. They also reflect on the legacy of the 2001 U.S. National Strategy for Su***de Prevention — which turns 25 this year — and how it compares to the 2024 update.
