Young Democrats of Eastern Washington

Hello World and Happy New Years!
As we wrap up 2021 and my term as Chair of the Spokane County Young Democrats I just want to take this moment to express how proud I am of our chapter. Our chapter for several years now has held firm that following democratic principles is important, and this year we continued to follow our values. The Spokane County Young Democrats have continued to show that inclusion and inclusivity are values worth fighting for. In part because we have stood by our values for the second year in a row our chapter was selected as Chapter of the year by our parent organization, Young Democrats of Washington. This past year we continued to express our values in a multitude of ways. We supported a resolution that highlighted that as Democrats we need to do better when it comes to our AAPI community and recognize the wrongs we as democrats have done, we endorsed one of the most diverse set of candidates that Spokane has ever seen, (We endorsed some candidates who won their races, that other democratic organizations wouldn’t even give the time of day.) and we did all this while making sure to uplift the voices of young democrats in a fu***ng pandemic. The Spokane County Young Democrats have shown other local democratic organizations that inclusion is not something to run from, but something that if embraced makes us stronger.

I am also proud of how our elections have gone. I am extremely excited that the Spokane County Young Democrats have elected their first female chair in Jennie Lindquist. We have also transitioned to a Co-Chair system with Sean Gannon as our other chair. Rounding out the board is Haley turner as Vice Chair, Nicholas CastroLang as Treasurer and Wesley Tillman as Secretary. Having had the opportunity to talk with the new board, I look forward to what they will do over the course of 2022. From fresh fundraising plans, to new ideas to connect young people to politics. I could not envision a better board to take over as I move into retirement.

Finally I want to take a moment and say thanks to my board for the past year, Derrick Skaug, Nicholas CastroLang, and finally the ever amazing Dr.Melissa Bedford. We collectively did a fantastic job modeling the change we want to see in democratic politics. I honestly could not have asked for a better board.

Had a great time chatting with Gloria for Judge at our last YD meeting! It went so well we decided to endorse her!

Gloria is the person we need as a judge. She clearly has a grasp of the issues and will bring about positive change if elected. We look forward to helping her out as we move past the primary and onto the general election!
