The Weeping Time Commemoration Weekend honors the 429 enslaved people sold in Savannah, Georgia, on March 2-3, 1859.

The commemoration weekend takes place annually during the first weekend in March.

Hilton Head Island native Emory Shaw Campbell thanks Beaufort County for continuing to uphold the Cultural Protection Overlay (CPO) on St. Helena Island. The CPO zoning disallows golf courses, resorts, and gated communities which have proliferated on Hilton Head Island. Mr. Campbell served as the Executive Director of the Penn Center from 1980 to 2002 and is widely regarded as champion of preserving Gullah cultural heritage and the environment of the Sea Islands. #protectsthelena #upholdcpo #gullahgeechee 27/09/2025
