Allegheny County Council elects environmental advocate as president, replacing Catena Days after Pat Catena resigned from the council presidency following a controversial campaign mailer, members picked Michelle Naccarati-Chapkis to succeed him.

Today we remember the fallen, honor their sacrifice, and keep their families in our thoughts. Happy Memorial Day.

Thank you, Rep. Emily Kinkead, for this thoughtful piece on the state of public discourse and the growing need to recognize one another’s humanity, even when we disagree.

Our democracy depends on more than elections alone. It requires civic trust, respect for public servants and neighbors alike, and the ability to hold differing opinions without dehumanizing and threatening one another. We do not have to share the same politics, but we do share the same communities.

Rep. Kinkead’s article asks us to consider a healthier way forward, one marked with decency, restraint, and the understanding that political opponents are not enemies.

Blood donations help support local hospitals and lifesaving emergency care throughout our community and the North Hills.
