A big thank you to officers and partners for continuing to improve the public realm in Chinatown.

Deansgate Labour councillors have been pushing for continued improvements across our neighbourhoods in Deansgate. Really happy to see this continue in Chinatown

Castlefield park update 🛝🌳

A big thanks to all our residents who have filled in our survey on what they would like to see in our new Castlefield park.

Deansgate Labour Councillors Anthony McCaul and Marcus Johns have now submitted your feedback to the Council.

You can still submit your own responses to the wider Water Street consultation at the link below:

Thank you from Joan Davies

As Manchester City Council commences its new year I would like to take the opportunity to thank all those people I have worked with in my 14 years representing the residents of the City Centre and Deansgate Wards.

It has been fun, rewarding, challenging and celebratory: a privilege and an honour.

I must thank my Deansgate Ward colleagues, Councillors Anthony MaCaul and Marcus Johns for their invaluable comradeship, support, and debates, along with my former councillor colleague William Jeavons.

I also thank the MCC staff who have shared their expertise in helping me understand and navigate the varied legislation, mechanisms, powers and constraints which shape the way we can effect change.

It has been exciting to see the city change in and around the expanding central core. Manchester is an exciting city to live in, a great city to live in and, in my view, is a rewarding location for a City Centre lifestyle.

I must also thank the residents I have represented: open-minded and tolerant, they have delighted in the vibrancy of the city. Many find time to give back to the city through active charity work, contributing expertise to a range of organisations, and actively working with community groups to improve our environment and green spaces.

I know Anthony and Marcus will continue to support this work.

I do hope the newly elected councillor enjoys her role as much as I did.

🌳 GREENER STREETS AND BETTER WALKING 🚶‍♂️

Today, Marcus and Anthony joined the Council’s highways team to inspect roads & pavements along & Whitworth St West.

The rain gardens are looking fabulously flowery, but we’re keen to see them maintained well & learn lessons from this scheme, so we can plant more of them in the city centre successfully.

We also inspected water pooling, particularly on pedestrian crossings & in cycle lanes, because we know it’s pain when standing water gets your feet wet or gets you splashed!

This kind of inspection & snagging work is part of how we help make sure all highways improvement schemes work well & look good.

Thanks to the rain for setting the scene! ☔️
