In just one month — August — the Guthrie Memorial Library staff led or supported forty-eight programs at the Guthrie and another nine outreach programs, reaching a total of 2,205 individuals.

Congratulations to Annie-Laure Woappi, Guthrie Memorial Library's Adult Services Manager, on receiving two awards for her Senior Health and Wellness Workshop program! The Hanover area is fortunate to have a strong staff at its public libraries.

Join us in congratulating our amazing Annie-Laure Woappi and celebrating our AWARD-WINNING Senior Health and Wellness Workshops!

On Tuesday, October 6th, staff attended the Pennsylvania Library Association Conference, and our very own Adult Services Manager Annie-Laure Woappi accepted TWO PA Forward Adult Literacy Programming awards for her weekly Senior Health and Wellness Workshops: the 2026 Best Health Literacy Program Award and the overall Best Adult Literacy Program Award.

PA Forward is a state literacy initiative that highlights "the five literacies"—skills that are essential to success, progress, and quality of life: Basic Literacy, Information Literacy, Civic and Social Literacy, Health Literacy, and Financial Literacy. Guthrie Memorial Library is a Gold Star Library and strives to educate our community on these five literacies with our free programs.

The Senior Health and Wellness Workshops meet every Tuesday at 10:15 am in the library's Bare Center. These weekly workshops often begin with a speaker that teaches us about a new topic in health and wellness, game, or activity, and ends with a free hot lunch* and social hour. To register, please call 717-632-5183.

*You must be 65 or older to receive a hot lunch.

So much happening behind the scenes!

Did you know? Every day, our delivery vans drive nearly 200 miles, connecting 13 libraries and ensuring requested books reach the cardholders who need them. Our 'DoorDash' of libraries, cost $1,400 to gas up each month. That's $16,800 a year just for gas!

The Friends of the Guthrie's next used book sale will be here before you know it! (November 12th through the 14th.) Funds raised by the Friends help provide Guthrie Memorial Library programming, and you can help by donating your used books.

Drop them off at the library on Mondays and Saturdays, entering the library and looping around to the right to the Friends' Book Nook.

Mondays: 10:00 - 8:00
Saturdays: 10:00 - 2:00
