Just look at all those smiles! The Board of Directors has such a good time when we meet to do the work of the Foundation. We are so happy that we can provide financial awards to Franklin’s graduating seniors to help them meet their higher education goals. Join us at our annual awards ceremony on May 27, 2026. See you there!

In addition to presenting the Franklin High School graduating seniors with financial awards that help them meet their college expenses, the Franklin High School Educational Foundation loves to find other creative ways to support Franklin’s college-bound students. This time, the Foundation came up with the clever idea of collecting suitcases to give to the students who will be flying to new locales to attend college. The Foundation knows that when it comes to preparing students for college, every little bit helps. Happy travels to these fine students!

Of course, we all remember Mr. Wright, College Counselor Extraordinaire! Can you believe that at 86 years old, he is more energetic than ever and he is still dedicated to supporting the students at Franklin High School? This time he is leading the Franklin High School Educational Foundation in collecting suitcases to give to Franklin’s graduating seniors who are going away to college. The Foundation is also collecting cold weather gear like ski jackets, beanies and gloves for those Panthers that are going away to colleges in cold locales. Please help Mr. Wright and the Foundation by donating what you can to support these students. You can drop donations off at the Franklin College Office. For any questions, feel free to call Victoria Insinna Ansell at 310-428-2626. If you would like to make a financial donation, you can do so on our website https://fef4students.org.

Because Franklin is the “Heart of Highland Park”, I have advocated for our school to get a “facelift” - Painting is happening now! I asked that the Welcome messages and the class murals be saved. This was agreed to … until today.. 😩 Solutions are challenging and money, time, and personnel are an issue.
From the District:
The background paint for these murals has faded to the point that it now looks transparent; the issue is that applying the protective cover in such a condition will cause the issue to be more noticeable.
Below are the potential solutions:
* Apply the protective mural cover as initially discussed, understanding and accepting that the problem with the background color fading will be more noticeable.
* At one point, some of these murals were eggs bombed; time and sun have dried the egg building a crust over some walls and ceilings. Before painting, the contractor will scrape the egg residues off the ceiling; However, the murals cannot be scraped, or their color will get pilled. The potential solutions are similar to the ones above.
* Apply the protective mural cover as initially discussed, understanding and accepting that the problem will be more noticeable.
* Scrape the egg remains and paint over the murals with the same colors we are applying on the lower portion of the wall – 0516 Diamond Stud (Main wall color) or 0518 Let it Rain (Wall accent color).
* The school gets a muralist to correct them before we apply the anti-graffiti coating.
*****
I don’t know of a muralist, nor have the money, and am fighting against time ( contractor is due to finish by the end of this year)
Know that I have tried to preserve the traditions, yet I understand the community deserves a school that demands high quality work. Never expected to have todays news.
