June is Immigrant Heritage Month! Chicago is proud to be a city of immigrants, starting all the way back to our founding by Jean Baptiste Pointe du Sable, and we are proud as a Committee to stand up for the rights of the immigrants and refugees that make our communities better in so many ways.

Join the Committee on Immigrant and Refugee Rights for a virtual Immigration Workshop on Understanding Your Status! Along with our partners from CAIR, United African Organization, MIRA, Haitian American Museum of Chicago (HAMOC), Syrian Community Network, Communities United, Family Focus Nuestra Familia, and Illinois Venezuelan Alliance, we will provide an overview of how to understand your immigration status, the federal agencies involved in the immigration process, and immigration updates on TPS, Asylum and DACA.

Únase al Comité de Derechos de Inmigrantes y Refugiados para la sesión de "Capacitación de Formadores" sobre el Plan de Emergencia Familiar, en colaboración con el Indo American Center.

Esta capacitación sobre el Plan de Emergencia Familiar está diseñada para empoderar al personal de las concejalías municipales, a diversas organizaciones y a otros defensores de derechos, con el fin de ayudar a las familias inmigrantes a elaborar planes de cuidado de emergencia para sus hijos. La sesión se centrará en la importancia de contar con un plan de emergencia familiar y en el proceso para crearlo; asimismo, abordará qué documentos se consideran esenciales y cómo asegurar que las familias puedan establecer, de manera proactiva, un plan de emergencia para sus hijos ante la eventualidad de una detención o deportación.

Here are some of the things the Committee has been up to lately: We joined United African Organization for the Chicago African Summit, for Dia del Niño, Zakat Foundation of America for the Refugee Youth Fest, for a panel on immigration, and the Ethiopian Community Organization for a workshop!

Join us next Monday for our May Committee on Immigrant and Refugee Rights meeting! We will discuss a resolution declaring February 2nd as Mexican American Heritage Day.
