King Square anti social behaviour, new rules.

l Officers have been given additional powers to direct people to leave King Square and surrounding area following an increase in anti-social behaviour.

There have been reports of young people on the roof of the library and other premises, a bin being set alight, fire doors being tampered with, and verbal abuse and threats towards council staff.

🗣️ Inspector Huw Tyler from South Wales Police said: “Everyone has the right to feel safe, wherever they are, and nobody should be subjected to threats, verbal abuse, and anti-social behaviour.

“We urge parents and guardians to speak to their young people about not getting involved in anti-social behaviour. Please also check who they are associating with, what they are doing and where they are.”

The order, which is granted under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014, is in place from 6pm today (Friday, October 9) until 6pm on Sunday, October 11.

It enables officers to direct individuals or groups to leave the area for 48 hours if their behaviour has or is likely to contribute to disorder or cause harassment, alarm, or distress to members of the public.

Those who are under the age of 16 and subject to this legislation will be taken home or to a place of safety.

🗣️ Inspector Tyler added: “We are committed to keeping Barry safe and putting a stop to this recent rise in anti-social behaviour.

“Anti-social behaviour referrals have already been submitted in relation to a number of young people, and their parents have been spoken to.

"Directed patrols by the Neighbourhood Policing Team are also continuing in King Square and we ask the public to please keep reporting incidents and providing information."

Disposable BBQs have been temporarily banned from sale across the UK as concerns grow about the risk of wildfires during the ongoing hot and dry weather 🔥

Disposable BBQs have been linked to a number of serious wildfires across the country this summer, creating a significant risk to people, wildlife and our countryside.

Here in the Vale, our teams have also been working hard to reduce the risk of fires, including clearing areas where what would usually be meadow has dried out and turned into long, dry grass and straw🌾

A huge thank you to those in the Fire Service who have been working tirelessly to respond to fires and keep our communities safe 👏

Please:

🚫 Do not use BBQs or fire pits in public open spaces.

🔥 Do not light fires outdoors.

📞 Report deliberate fire-setting to Police on 101.

⚠️ Keep clear of affected areas.

| Glorious sunshine this bank holiday weekend has seen thousands head for popular beaches and parks across south Wales.
Unfortunately, a number of children have been reported missing to us by worried parents and guardians.
We’re pleased to add that all children reported missing have been reunited with them and are safe.
But it's a distressing experience for all involved, so we’d like to share some tips to keep your children safe and your trip stress-free:

😎 Photo: Before you leave the house, take a full-body photo of each child. If a separation occurs, you will have an accurate, up-to-date visual to show security or police.

😎 ID and contact: Slip a paper with your phone number into their pocket, or write your mobile number directly on their forearm using a permanent marker.

😎 "Stop and Wait”: Teach younger children to freeze exactly where they are the moment they realize they can't see you. It is much easier for you to find them if they stay put.

😎 Who to approach: Instruct your children to only ask for help from uniformed staff (like security or police) or another parent with a pram/family if they are lost.

😎 Designated meeting point: Upon arrival, pick an obvious, central location (such as a large statue, information desk, or specific café) and establish it as your go-to meeting point.

🚨 Contact South Wales Police immediately if your child is missing! If you're in a busy place like a popular beach an officer or a PCSO won't be far away...

Remembering some of these simple tips can really help if your child does happen to lose you! Whatever your plans, enjoy your day out and stay safe.
