Draft "The role of the Generation of the 80s
"
Our generation, those born in the late 80s are the connecting link between the past and the present, we are those young people that learned to live without internet had to play outside with there friends rather than online gaming we didn’t had Facebook until our 18 and we had to socialize through face to face relation. We are those young people that so how the world was before Internet and developed parallel to it. We started by using PC with floppy disc and here we are today having IPhones and computers that are thinner than the floppy disc we had at school. It is our generation that talked about Clinton s*x scandal; sow on TV the pain in Rwanda the twin towers fall and bombs falling on Afghanistan and Iraq. It is us that viewed images of the oil spill in the golf of Mexico. It is us that views within our children years the world changing arguably as it never did before so fast. The world changed, kids changed, today half of our population is struggling to learn how to use technology when the other half is taking it for granted and learned from its first years that it is part of there life.
But where do my generation stand in this split?
We are in the middle of a changing world we sow the past we lived within the change and here we are today in the firsts day of tomorrow. What is this day? it is a day that more than half of us do not have a job and a quarter of us is seeing its life standards decreasing for the first time, when we where used to discover new technologies and better life standards every day. Here we are today most of as have just entered adultery, we are educated probably we are the most educated generation since seeing the change made as different than any other generation. We learned to read through books, to seek knowledge through library and teaching, to seek friends not through Facebook and MSN but at everyday activities, we learned to flirt not through chat rooms but face to face. Once we learned this, we discovered the second face of our life Internet we used it to increase our knowledge, our critical thinking, our entertainment and to increase our social life as in some cases to decrease it. What we learned is the greatness of Internet.
Today they call us the lost generation; most of us have found Internet as a harbor to decrease the pain of unemployment and un-productivity. Shall we accept that? Don’t we have something to propose, haven’t we learned anything, haven’t we something different to propose since we are the first next generation of this era. It us because younger kids lived only in an era of mass internet , and older generation that brought us here have saturated . It is us that need to fight for not being called a lost generation.
Our weapon is our difference, our knowledge and our critical thinking, educated or not every young adult today have a great knowledge his experience of life, and the experience of living in a world that changed faster than we did. What are we? who are we?, what are we doing today? What make us happy? What is happiness? Those are question each one of as has to first answer within him and then fight for achieving what he believes is what he wants for him and for us.
In 2007 most of us thought we are going to live in a golden era of technology and entertainment, today the situation seems we are going to live in an era of mass unemployment and poverty. What we shall show is that we shall live in an era of wisdom and change. We have been born in change and we are the ones that know how evolution can change lives.
The majority of people when it comes to the discussion of evolution ask, evolution toward what?
There comes once again science, technology and humans to answer this question. It won’t be easy and quick but it will be the right thing to do, for the future generation and us. We grow up in an era of Internet development; lets live in an era of environmental consciousness. What is this, how it defines our lives and our civilization?
Much has been said and more have been written and even more will come, but ideas and technologies are nothing without the belief of society in such project.
We need to change our life, stop consuming non-renewable sources and start caring about the long-term. We shall understand that happiness is above all, but in order to have happiness we need to plan our future and keep a place we can develop and flourish. Our earth has limited resources; it is not capable of filtering all our wastes. What we do today for it, fight for whom will gain more benefits from small changes that just delay the real change, former generations now in power cannot understand that a second revolution within few years is needed they lost the power of evolution by bringing us one of the greatest inventions, internet. We shall say thank you but it is time for theme to stay back and let the new generation take the lead and make the change that is needed.
Every time someone criticize today’s dogma he is attacked as a communist or someone that do not understand the consequences of change. But the reality is that the current elites do not understand the consequences of not changing and staying still. We already see it with 60% unemployment in European countries, poverty and wars all over the world, what do we need to see more than this in order to understand that the time has come. Change is needed.
Ideas, does a model for a new world exist, yes it exists in most environmental books you can read about vision of future societies, although this is a radicalization of change as it has existed in each era of change. The real vision in simple keep the good things of our world and change the bad things. Petrol has created so many wars, we shall abandon it, how? RES already exist we are ready to use theme, how petrol will leave from the equation through carbon tax, discussion exist but people are afraid of such change. Mass consumption the second problem again the change is easy renewable products, why can we update the hardware of an IPhone, easy cheaper production and renewable parts. We can use such idea for most products. Politics and democracy need a lifting, as it has always been done, new ideas will bring new people, society has to be mature to make the right choices toward an evolution, people that can bring this are young leaders that will stay for long and implement those new ideas.
War cannot disappear but peace can be reinforced through the model that the past generation gave as. If France and Germany after two big wars achieved today to have no borders, the world can become peaceful. We just need to give the ability to all countries to develop and face the same treatment. Democracy may not be the choice of some societies, we cannot enforce it, what we shall enforce is human rights more developed than what they are today and what we have to enforce is education food and peace for every young person in the earth.
Humanity of the 21st century has to understand religious or not, that we have one common goal to sustain our planet for our kids and all the coming generation. If you are religious of any belief, you will agree that God gave as earth and we shall preserve it clean and for ever, if you believe in aliens you will agree that we shall united in order to find them and learn what is out there, if you believe in you and what you see, you will agree that we need to sustain an earth in order to develop and flourish. Even for this simple thing that from every viewpoint are true, we do not do it. The earth is in a trajectory of erasing humanity because of our impact on it, although before earth erase as we will collapse alone. Our window of opportunity is closing, we wont disappear but if we do not use this small window of opportunity my generation will face chaos and will need to change within it.
This is way we need to take the future in our hands, we are capable and we can do it, what we need is a chance and to be united, no political or religious ideologies can split us, all over the world young people have to get together around this common problem and demand to get ready in order to enter the future through this window of opportunity and start changing today and not tomorrow under chaos. Only if all the world together unites under this common idea of a sustainable world we shall flourish again , we have to get the job done under one united block, and the once that have to lead this change is those with the experience of the past and the present the generation of the 80s.
