, Balod, Bemetara, Gariyaband, Balodabajar, Mungeli, Surajpur & Balrampur have been carved out to supplement the administrative efficacy, making a total of 27 districts in the State. Shri SM Shukla, IPS, the first Director General of Police took pride in bringing up the infant PHQ, Shri OP Rathor, IPS, the 5th DG Police, with an eight long years of experience in the United Nations, contributed a lot besides being instrumental in establishing a ‘Counter Terrorism & Jungle Warfare’ School at Kanker. The 6th Director General, Shri Vishwaranjan, IPS added new dimensions to the Chhattisgarh police ushering in the era of police modernization and all-round professionalism. His extensive experience of serving the Intelligence Bureau for more than 20 years helped the state manifolds. Other DGsP namely Shri RLS Yadav (2nd DGP), Shri VK Das (3rd DGP) and Shri Ashok Darbari (4th DGP), Shri Anil M Navaney (7th DGP), Shri Ram Niwas (8th DGP) also helped in overcoming the initial problems of the department.The present DGP Shri Ashok juneja IPS, has been putting immense efforts to raise the standards of Chhattisgarh police in all aspects. The Government of Chhattisgarh has been supportive throughout to strengthen the police & make it more people-friendly. Besides the state budget, various schemes like PMF, SIS and 12th FC have helped the department to strengthen its infrastructure. IED School, a recent addition was inaugurated on 28.12.14 at 4th Bn campus Mana to create awareness in police personnel. Four Counter Insurgency & Anti Terrorist (CIAT) schools established in Chadkhuri, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon & Jagdalpur and funded by Central Government impart training to CG Police personnel in counter insurgency. Chhattisgarh police now has a total 18 Armed Battalions (CAF) including 9 India Reserve (IR) Bns. The IPS cadre strength has increased from initial 59 to 103. The state is divided into Five police ranges viz; Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Sarguja and Bastar. Number of sanctioned Police Stations has risen from 298 in November, 2000 to 422 in January, 2014. All other labs are equipped with modern gadgets. The welfare activities, ranging from establishment of police petrol pumps to gas agencies, have enabled easy access to basic amenities of modern life at reasonable rates. SIB & STF have been constituted by the govt to strengthen its resolve against the LWE. The teething problems of this new State are gradually taking a back seat. The fortification of 75 PSs under SIS & installation of 146 mobile towers is in progress. Crime Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS), to connect all the police stations & higher offices to state data centre and lodging FIRs online & tracking/analysis data of crimes/criminals is a step of CG police towards excellence.
