ANC MBUSO KUBHEKA REGION NOTES THE RESIGNATION OF CLLR BHEKI GIFT MADI
22 September 2026
The African National Congress in the Mbuso Kubheka Region notes the resignation of Cllr Bheki Gift Madi as an ANC councillor deployed to Newcastle Local Municipality and Amajuba District Municipality, with effect from 21 September 2026.
The ANC is not surprised by this development. Asothukanga — kakade the signs were there.
This resignation must serve as a sharp political reminder to every ANC councillor, candidate and deployee: deployment by the African National Congress is not a personal entitlement, a career opportunity or a gateway to individual enrichment. It is a responsibility entrusted to cadres for the purpose of serving the people.
No individual is bigger than the movement. No position belongs to an individual. Councillors do not inherit wards, municipalities or positions of influence. They are deployed under the banner of the ANC because communities have placed their confidence in the movement and expect its representatives to advance their interests.
The ANC has, throughout its history, elevated men and women into positions of responsibility. Experience has also shown that some who are elevated by the organisation later turn their backs on the movement that gave them the platform from which they rose.
The ANC cannot accept a culture in which deployment is treated as a self-enrichment scheme, a personal business opportunity or an instrument for advancing narrow individual interests.
Our councillors and candidates must therefore understand clearly: when the ANC deploys you, it does not hand you ownership of a position. It gives you an assignment. The position belongs to the people, and the responsibility is to serve them.
Anyone who accepts ANC deployment must be prepared to serve with discipline, humility, accountability and commitment to the principles of the organisation. Those who see public office merely as a ladder to status, influence or material benefit misunderstand the fundamental purpose of public representation.
The people of Newcastle, Amajuba and the entire Mbuso Kubheka Region deserve representatives who do not disappear when responsibility becomes difficult; who do not place interests above collective responsibility; and who understand that the hardships experienced by communities must never become opportunities for personal advancement.
As we approach the Local Government Elections, the ANC Mbuso Kubheka Region sends an unequivocal message to every candidate who carries the ANC name:
You are not being elected to enrich yourself.
You are not being elected to become important.
You are not being elected to serve yourself.
You are being deployed to serve the people.
The ANC will continue to demand accountability from those it deploys. Public office must be occupied by disciplined, committed and dependable representatives who understand that leadership is service, not entitlement; sacrifice, not privilege; and collective responsibility, not personal ambition.
Those who cannot carry that responsibility must not expect the ANC to compromise its principles to accommodate individual interests.
The African National Congress remains bigger than any individual. Its mission to transform the lives of our people will continue irrespective of those who choose to walk away from the responsibilities entrusted to them.
The movement will remain.
The people will remain.
The struggle to build better communities will continue.
