Dear Friends
We trust this finds you well.
Last week the first report titled: Prevalence Insights from the Criminal Justice System & Relevant Reporting Mechanisms which forms part of the comprehensive research study: RESEARCH INTO THE NATURE AND SCOPE OF TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS IN SOUTH AFRICA was published. Attached please find the press release and the report.
We believe that this will shift the boundaries of knowledge around the issue of human trafficking in South Africa and encourage you to read the report.
Uveka Rangappa in conversation with Marcel van der Watt will be unpacking the report on Tuesday 31st Jan 2023 in a Zoom meeting.

Great article explaining why full decriminalization of prostitution is not the answer for South Africa. It has failed dismally in other countries and people are being harmed in the process.
We, along with SALE SA Stand Against Legal Exploitation stand for partial decrim/Nordic Model/Equality model. Make your voice heard before the 31st January.

The Undeniable Failure of Permissive Approaches to Prostitution
The movement to legalize prostitution, or "s*x work," gained traction last year and is likely to continue in 2023.

Defending a prostituted personโs dignity starts with saying โnoโ to full decriminalisation
Re-opening of South Africaโs prostitution law reform debate makes the mistake of assuming it is work and not exploitation.

Prevention is at the heart of what Pilot My Future provide. By creating awareness and teaching on child protection and personal body safety through Protective Behaviours, they give children skills to not become victims of child trafficking or gender based violence. They help to create a safety network so they know who to go to for help if trouble arises. They provide adults with Child Protection awareness and Protective Behaviours body safety messages. All children have the right to feel safe at all times and adults have a duty to defend them.

Today we acknowledge the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and the start of 16 days of activism against Gender-Based Violence. This year, the UN marks the 16 Days under the theme โUNiTE! Activism to end violence against women and girlsโ.
We will be partaking in "Orange the world" to raise awareness, highlighting how GBV is often involved in Human Trafficking cases and we will also be highlighting amazing local organisations and the role they play in the fight against Gender-Based Violence and Trafficking in Persons.
