Comrades and fellow students,

We have noted the call by the EFFYC Convenor urging students to stop sharing a video of one of their members who was assaulted. As a progressive student leader, I want to state clearly that I do not support the circulation of such content. Violence and the public humiliation of any student must never be normalised.

However, comrades, we must also speak honestly about consistency and principle.

It is deeply painful and disappointing that the very same individuals who today call for respect and protection of their member were previously involved in spreading misinformation and gossip about me, Comrade Ikhona from SASCO. False narratives were shared in EFFYC groups, damaging my name and reputation among students.

More concerning, a video involving me was circulated on their TikTok platform without my consent, and my name was used for political campaigns across campus. Despite the emotional impact of this, I chose not to respond publicly because I respect the dignity of student leadership and the unity of our campus.

Comrades, leadership must be guided by integrity, not convenience. We cannot defend human dignity only when it suits us politically. We must be consistent in rejecting cyberbullying, character assassination, and the violation of individuals’ rights regardless of political affiliation.

Let us build a culture of respect, accountability, and political maturity. Our struggle is not to destroy one another, but to advance the interests of all students.

Yours in student struggle
Comrade Ikhona Ngcuka
SASCO Convenor

OFFICIAL STATEMENT TO STUDENTS

The South African Students Congress (SASCO) calls on all students to be vigilant and politically conscious during this election period. The future of our institution must not be placed in the hands of organizations that continue to mislead students and create instability on campus.

It has become clear that the behaviour of EFF Student Command (EFFYC) shows a serious lack of political discipline and respect for democratic processes. During our presentation, their members deliberately disrupted the program and acted in a violent and intimidating manner simply because they did not want students to hear the truth about the problems they have caused in this institution.

This kind of conduct proves that EFFYC is not interested in building the institution, but in creating chaos, division, and fear among students. An organization that cannot respect a peaceful presentation cannot be trusted with the responsibility of leading students.

SASCO believes that student leadership must be guided by political maturity, accountability, and a genuine commitment to solving student problems such as funding, accommodation, academic support, and student development — not by violence and empty slogans.

We therefore call on all students not to make the mistake of voting out of excitement, fear, or misinformation. Vote with your mind. Vote for stability. Vote for responsible leadership.

The institution needs leaders who will fight for students in a disciplined and democratic manner, not leaders who bring conflict wherever they go.

SASCO remains committed to defending the rights of students and building a progressive, peaceful, and united campus.

Yours in struggling
Comrade in solidarity

As SASCO PE TVET College Branch we express serious concern regarding the events that took place yesterday at the Dower Campus.

Yesterday on the 10 march, SASCO members visited the campus with the intention of mobilising students and encouraging them to participate in the upcoming SRC elections by supporting SASCO as a movement committed to the betterment of students.

However, our members were informed that we were not allowed to place our gazebo inside the campus or conduct our activities within the premises, despite being registered students of PE TVET College.

While attempting to set up our tables, security personnel stopped our members and claimed they had been instructed not to allow us to use any property belonging to the institution. The chairs and tables we intended to use were taken away, and our members were asked to leave the campus by the secretary general, Mr Brian Mtana an EFFYC member.

SASCO finds this deeply concerning as it undermines the democratic rights of students to organise and engage with fellow students during this important period.

As a progressive student movement, we remain committed to advocating for fairness, student participation, and the right of students to freely mobilise on their campuses.

SASCO will continue to stand firm in defending the voice and rights of students.

✊ Forward with student power!
✊ Vote SASCO for a better campus!

Today, we responded to concerns raised by Hospitality Level 2 (NCV) students regarding a critical shortage of lecturers.

Students approached the SASCO student leader, expressing their concern that with tests approaching next week, they had not received adequate instruction.

SASCO immediately engaged with the school’s principal and HOD to address this issue.

We are pleased to announce that new lecturers have been interviewed and will be appointed shortly.

We thank the students for their trust and remain committed to ensuring quality education for all.

We also note with concern that some EFF members dismissed the focus on NCV students.

This reinforces that SASCO is truly here to serve all students. We will continue to stand with you.

Thank you.
