Today, we joined the congregation of St Charles Lwanga Catholic Church in Soshanguve Block F under the theme: “We pray for free and fair elections.”

We pray for political tolerance and for the ANC to win the elections in Tshwane so that we can advance service delivery in our communities.

The service was attended by ANC Greater Tshwane Treasurer James Shelenge, ANC Greater Tshwane REC member and MMC for Human Settlements Ald. Aaron Maluleka, ANC Ward 29 Councillor candidate Thabo Mathibedi, and ANC Women's League RTT Organiser Portia Mokoena.

The City of Tshwane has mobilised emergency relief for families affected by a devastating fire at Bagdad Informal Settlement in Salvokop, which destroyed approximately 100 shacks and claimed the life of one resident.

The fire has affected 177 adults and 10 children, many of whom have lost their homes and essential belongings.

MMC for Human Settlements Ald. Aaron Maluleka and MMC for Community and Social Development Palesa Modise responded to an emergency at Baghdad Informal Settlement in Salvokop after a fire gutted 100 shacks in the early hours of the morning.

The City is mobilising social relief to support the affected households. We will also engage Home Affairs and other relevant departments to provide assistance and ensure that residents receive the necessary support during this difficult time.

The City of Tshwane is taking steps towards phasing out chemical toilets in informal settlements through the gradual introduction of alternative sanitation solutions.

On Thursday, in partnership with Amalooloo, the City donated seven alternative sanitation solutions to residents of Sizanani Informal Settlement.

This initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to improve access to dignified, safe and sustainable sanitation services for communities.

As the 4 November Local Government Elections approach, the ANC campaign trail took us to New Paradise Informal Settlement in Ward 7, Atteridgeville, where we engaged with residents alongside Deputy President Paul Mashatile, PEC Coordinator Sochayile, NEC member Steve Letsike and REC member Mashola.

The engagement provided an opportunity to outline government plans to formalise settlements and ensure communities have access to essential bulk services.

MMC for Human Settlements, Ald. Aaron Maluleka, handed over a donation of an alternative sanitation solution to residents of Sizanani Extension and a house to the Mahlangu family.

The family is among 118 families displaced after being evicted from farms across the municipality where they had lived for years.

The City purchased land and relocated the families to Sizanani Extension to provide them with security of tenure and enable incremental development.

Plans are underway to provide formal services, including bulk water and electricity, to improve living conditions in the area.
