This massive dead stump, once a magnificent African Flame Tree (Spathodea campanulata), had to be removed after becoming a serious safety hazard.

Completely rotten and structurally compromised, the stump was standing between two buildings and posed a significant risk should it collapse. The situation was made even more challenging by the fact that the stump was no longer stable and had deteriorated to the point where it was, quite literally, standing by grace alone.

🌳 Wild Fig Removal – Van der Steen Street 🌳

A large Wild Fig (Ficus species) was removed in Van der Steen Street after its aggressive root system began causing significant damage to the property.
The tree was standing right next to the boundary wall and had already caused damage to the wall in the past. As the roots continued to grow, there was a growing concern that they would cause further damage to the wall, foundations, and underground services such as water pipes.
After careful assessment, the decision was made to safely dismantle and remove the tree before more extensive and costly damage could occur.
While Fig trees are magnificent specimens, their powerful root systems can become highly destructive when planted too close to structures.
