PRESIDENT HICHILEMA URGES YOUTHS TO TURN UP IN LARGE NUMBERS FOR 2026 GENERAL ELECTIONS
President Hakainde Hichilema has urged young people to actively participate in the democratic process by turning up in large numbers to vote in the August 13, 2026 General Elections.
The Head of State said the participation of youths in elections is critical to shaping the country’s future and ensuring that leaders who prioritize development and opportunities for young people are elected.
President Hichilema reiterated that government remains committed to empowering youths and welcomed ongoing surveys assessing the implementation of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), noting that the findings will help improve service delivery across the country.
Meanwhile, the President called on young people to reject corruption, political violence and regionalism, saying such vices undermine national development and deprive citizens of opportunities.
He cited the recent corruption case involving former minister Joseph Malanji, stating that resources lost through corrupt practices could have been used to create opportunities for young people.
Speaking when he graced the National 2026 Youth Indaba at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, the Head of State further encouraged youths to avoid early marriages, substance abuse and idleness, urging them instead to focus on education and productive activities that contribute to national growth.
President Hichilema also appealed to young people to be patriotic and play a role in promoting Zambia globally, noting that the country is gradually reclaiming its position on the international stage.
He emphasized that the youth hold the key to the country’s future and must take responsibility in shaping the nation through positive values and active citizenship.
“Arise and soar, this is your time and not tomorrow,” President Hichilema said. “Let the youths of Zambia say no to corruption, reject violence and work hard for a better future.”
