MUYOBE- Nachikuyu Bridge, Macha Ward

To everyone who raised concerns about the Muyobe Bridge, I heard you. And I acted.

Yesterday, the Choma Council Director of Engineering and the Contractor held a public engagement at the site. The media were there. The community was there. Questions were asked freely and answered openly.

The Council Engineers message is clear: give them space to work according to the approved design. And we will hold them to exactly that as a Community.

Going forward, any issues observed on site should be reported directly to your WDC leaders, who will escalate to the Council immediately.

To Mungalu Mungalu, Hanzila Kanenga and all who spoke up , this is what your voice does. It moves things.

I am deeply disappointed by the sluggish and unacceptable progress on the construction of the Nacikuyu–Muyobe Bridge in Mbabala Constituency under CDF.

It is unfortunate that despite the contractor, Chakamu Construction Limited, having received a mobilisation fee, there is little to no meaningful work taking place on site. The people of Mbabala deserve better. This bridge is not a luxury project it is a critical link for our communities, farmers, school-going children, and local economic activities.

What is even more concerning is the silence and apparent inaction from the Choma Municipal Council regarding the stalled works. As a local authority entrusted with oversight responsibilities, the council must act decisively in the interest of the people.

I therefore urge the council to immediately engage the contractor and demand accountability. If the contractor has failed to honour contractual obligations, then the contract should be terminated without delay so that a capable contractor can take over the project.

Development delayed is development denied. The people of Mbabala cannot continue waiting while a vital project remains abandoned.
