Works on Chisikili Bridge in Ngonga Ward of Mbabala Constituency have now been completed.

The bridge, which had been a challenge for many people to cross especially during the rainy season, is now expected to make movement easier for the community.

Farmers, learners and other members of the public are expected to benefit from the completed bridge as it will improve access within the area.

The project included embankment works and installation of side rails before reaching completion.

Residents in the area have welcomed the development, saying the bridge will help improve transportation and make life easier for the community.

Choma - 26th May, 2026

An atmosphere of deep sorrow and heartbreak filled Tontonzo Funeral Services as scores of mourners gathered to pay their final respects to Mr. Abel Kangwa, who sadly passed away on 23rd May, 2026.

The funeral procession later moved to Choma Town Kingdom Hall for a touching funeral talk before proceeding to Woodpark Cemetery where Mr. Kangwa was finally laid to rest.

Kangwa joined Choma Municipal Council in 2013 as District Planning Officer and was later promoted in 2017 to Chief Community Development Officer, a position he faithfully served until his untimely passing.

To many at the council, Ba Kangwa was more than just a workmate. His office door was always open, and his presence brought warmth and laughter to the workplace. Even when one was rushing for a meeting, you would suddenly hear his familiar voice calling out, “Iwe, isa kuno… ikala apa,” making you think he had something urgent or important to discuss. Only for him to smile and say, “Nachilafwaya nkuposheko fye, kuti waya.”

Those simple moments, his jokes, laughter, and the way he constantly teased his Eastern Province tribal cousins, are memories many will carry forever.

Speaking on behalf of Choma Municipal Council, Town Clerk Davies Musenge described his death as a painful loss to the institution and the district at large, stating that the council has lost a dedicated officer and a man whose kindness and humor brightened many lives.

As family, friends and colleagues watched him being put to rest, the reality of the painful loss weighed heavily on every heart.
