COMMEMORATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MIDWIVES (IDM)

Kalulushi District Health Office (DHO) joined the Provincial Commemoration of the International Day of Midwives (IDM) held in Ndola under the theme “1 Million More Midwives.”
The event brought together health professionals, midwives, district representatives, and stakeholders to recognize the critical role midwives play in improving maternal and newborn health services.
The District Health Director Dr. Mumba Fortune, together with midwives from Kalulushi District, participated in the commemorative activities.
The event provided an opportunity for interaction, learning, motivation, and appreciation of the dedication demonstrated by midwives in service delivery.
The Guest of Honour, the Copperbelt Provincial Minister, was represented by the Ndola District Commissioner, Mrs. Njekwa. In her remarks, she appreciated the commitment and sacrifices made by midwives in ensuring safe motherhood and quality maternal and child health services.
She emphasized the need for continued investment in recruitment, training, and support for midwives in order to strengthen the health system and reduce maternal and neonatal mortality.
As part of the commemoration, deserving midwives from various institutions across the province were recognized and awarded for their outstanding performance, dedication, and contribution to maternal and newborn care services.
The Kalulushi District Health Director awarded Kangwa Chileshe Kawina in recognition of her innovation, excellence, and commitment to duty. The award highlighted her exceptional contribution towards improving service delivery and promoting quality maternal health care within the district.
The International Day of Midwives commemoration was successfully held and served as an important platform to celebrate and appreciate the invaluable role of midwives in the health sector. The event further motivated health workers to continue providing quality, compassionate, and professional maternal and newborn health services to communities.

NEW PRIVATE HOSPITAL OPENS IN KALULUSHI
On Thursday, 9th April 2026, El-Roi Medical Centre was officially launched in Kalulushi District.
The ceremony was officiated by the Guest of Honour, General Overseer of Bread of Life Church International, Bishop Joe Imakando, alongside Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Mr. Lawrence Mwanza. Also in attendance was Provincial Health Director Dr. Charles Mwinuna and Acting District Health Director Mr. Patrick Chibuye, who represented the Kalulushi District Health Office.
In his remarks, Dr. Mwinuna welcomed the establishment of the new health facility and highlighted the importance of collaboration with the District Health Office, particularly in national programs such as immunization campaigns and also in data management systems. He also commended the existing cooperation between the facility’s management and the District Health Office prior to its official opening. He noted that, in addition to improving healthcare services, the facility has created employment opportunities within the health sector.
Mr. Mwanza also congratulated the owners of El-Roi Medical Centre, emphasizing that the hospital is not intended to compete with government institutions but rather to support and complement public healthcare services.
Bishop Imakando, in his speech, praised the founders of the medical centre, stating that the facility reflects the ministry of Jesus Christ by aiming to heal, transform, and touch lives, in line with its vision. He expressed hope that the hospital would not only provide medical treatment but also offer spiritual support by encouraging reliance on God. He further advised the management to prioritize serving people over profit, noting that financial rewards would follow naturally.
The clergyman also encouraged members of the community to support the hospital by promoting it positively, referring patients, and utilizing its services.
