MILUPI CRITICISES SINYINDA'S ENDORSEMENT OF TONSE ALLIANCE

By Andrew Mukoma

UPND Alliance Chairperson Charles Milupi has expressed disappointment over former Ngambela Clement Sinyinda's endorsement of the Tonse Alliance ahead of the August 13 General Elections.

Speaking during a campaign engagement in Kalabo this afternoon, Mr. Milupi said the decision was disappointing to many people in Western Province.

He alleged that the previous Patriotic Front administration failed to rehabilitate the Tapo– Kalabo- Sikongo road leading to Angola.

The former Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Minister wondered how and why Mr Sinyinda could support such a grouping that neglected the region during its stay in power.

Mr. Milupi said the current government has secured funding for the road projects under President Hakainde Hichilema and called on the people of Kalabo to vote for President Hichilema and the UPND in the forthcoming elections.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lusaka,May 17, 2026-The UPND Alliance has today held a strategic meeting at Community House hosted by His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema, attended by all Alliance partner political parties to discuss key national and political matters ahead of the 2026 General Elections.

The meeting, which commenced at 10:00 hours, reflected on the significant economic transformation and national progress achieved since the UPND formed government following the 2021 General Elections.
The Alliance reviewed major milestones attained despite challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, drought and global geopolitical tensions that negatively affected economies across the world.

Among the achievements highlighted were progress in the education, mining, agriculture and energy sectors, massive infrastructure development, increased recruitment in public service and the expansion of alternative energy solutions including solar and thermal energy aimed at addressing electricity challenges and reducing load-shedding.
The meeting further discussed the vision for Zambia beyond 2026, with Alliance partners expressing confidence that more jobs will be created, investment in the energy sector will increase and opportunities for citizens will continue to expand under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema.

The Alliance also welcomed ongoing democratic reforms aimed at increasing representation of women, youths and other groups in governance structures through the proposed mixed proportional representation system at parliamentary and council levels.
On matters relating to the adoption process ahead of the elections, Alliance partners agreed on the need to identify and support credible, community-based and hardworking candidates who genuinely understand the needs of the people.
The meeting further emphasized unity, sacrifice and collective responsibility among Alliance members, noting that some members may be required to support others for the greater good of strengthening the presidential campaign and consolidating national development.

Alliance partners resolved to intensify campaigns across the country, continue engaging citizens on government policies and achievements and recruit more grassroots campaign structures to strengthen the Alliance ahead of the elections.

The UPND Alliance reaffirmed its commitment to working together in unity, peace and love while advancing the shared vision of economic growth, national stability and improved livelihoods for all Zambians.
The Alliance has also announced that all Alliance partners and members will accompany His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema and the running mate during the filing in of nominations on Friday as a sign of solidarity and support.

The UPND Alliance wishes to thank His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema for his visionary leadership and continued commitment to national development. The Alliance also extends appreciation to Alliance Chairperson Honourable Charles Milupi and all partner political parties for their guidance, unity and dedication towards building a better Zambia.
