This morning, we were honoured to be joined by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, Dr. Douty Chibamba, alongside Mr. Richard Lungu, Director Environment, as we planted trees within the Zone.

The tree planting exercise was held in commemoration of World Environment Day which falls of 5th June every year. This yearโ€™s theme is: โ€œ๐€๐œ๐œ๐ž๐ฅ๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐™๐š๐ฆ๐›๐ข๐šโ€™๐ฌ ๐‚๐ฅ๐ข๐ฆ๐š๐ญ๐ž ๐€๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐†๐ซ๐ž๐ž๐ง ๐†๐ซ๐จ๐ฐ๐ญ๐ก ๐š๐ง๐ ๐’๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ข๐ง๐š๐›๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ.โ€ The initiative forms part of our resolve to promoting environmental sustainability and supporting Zambiaโ€™s climate action agenda.

Also joining us for the activity were the Chief Portfolio Officer of the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), Mr. Siakakaye Siameja, LS-MFEZ Board Chairperson Mr. Boster Chiyaba, Director Legal and Enforcement from the Securities and Exchange Commission, Mrs. Diana Sichone, cooperating partners and our valued investors.

In his remarks, Dr. Chibamba commended the partnership between LS-MFEZ, SEC and other stakeholders, noting that tree planting remains one of the most practical and effective climate actions. He emphasized the critical role trees play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving air quality, conserving biodiversity and supporting sustainable industrial development. He further applauded LS-MFEZโ€™s initiative to plant 1,000 trees as a meaningful contribution towards reducing the carbon footprint and promoting green investment practices.

Mr. Siameja reaffirmed IDCโ€™s commitment to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles, highlighting that sustainable development goes beyond economic growth to include responsible environmental stewardship. He noted that initiatives such as today's exercise strengthen the long-term attractiveness and competitiveness of Zambiaโ€™s industrial assets while demonstrating responsible corporate citizenship.

We are building an Economic Zone that not only attracts investment and creates jobs but also safeguards the environment.

A big thank you to our investors for supporting this initiative!

To kick-start our activities, LS-MFEZ sponsored 30 pupils from Shantumbu Primary School for an educational visit to the Chifwema Arboretum, where they learned about Zambiaโ€™s tree species, environmental conservation and the role of trees in combating climate change.

LS-MFEZ Acting Managing Director Mrs. Inonge N. Gondwe and Director Technical and Planning Mr. Maxwell Zulu took time to interact with the pupils ahead of the educational tour, encouraging them to make the most of the learning experience.

Through initiatives such as these, we continue to promote environmental awareness and inspire the next generation to become champions of sustainability.
