This morning, we were honoured to be joined by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, Dr. Douty Chibamba, alongside Mr. Richard Lungu, Director Environment, as we planted trees within the Zone.
The tree planting exercise was held in commemoration of World Environment Day which falls of 5th June every year. This yearโs theme is: โ๐๐๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ซ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ฆ๐๐ข๐โ๐ฌ ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ง ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฐ๐ญ๐ก ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ข๐ง๐๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ.โ The initiative forms part of our resolve to promoting environmental sustainability and supporting Zambiaโs climate action agenda.
Also joining us for the activity were the Chief Portfolio Officer of the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), Mr. Siakakaye Siameja, LS-MFEZ Board Chairperson Mr. Boster Chiyaba, Director Legal and Enforcement from the Securities and Exchange Commission, Mrs. Diana Sichone, cooperating partners and our valued investors.
In his remarks, Dr. Chibamba commended the partnership between LS-MFEZ, SEC and other stakeholders, noting that tree planting remains one of the most practical and effective climate actions. He emphasized the critical role trees play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving air quality, conserving biodiversity and supporting sustainable industrial development. He further applauded LS-MFEZโs initiative to plant 1,000 trees as a meaningful contribution towards reducing the carbon footprint and promoting green investment practices.
Mr. Siameja reaffirmed IDCโs commitment to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles, highlighting that sustainable development goes beyond economic growth to include responsible environmental stewardship. He noted that initiatives such as today's exercise strengthen the long-term attractiveness and competitiveness of Zambiaโs industrial assets while demonstrating responsible corporate citizenship.
We are building an Economic Zone that not only attracts investment and creates jobs but also safeguards the environment.

On 5th June 2026, we join the Nation and the International Community in commemorating World Environment Day under the theme: โ๐๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ญ๐ฎ๐บ๐ฏ๐ถ๐ฎโ๐ ๐๐น๐ถ๐บ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ป ๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐๐ต ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฆ๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐๐.โ
To kick-start our activities, LS-MFEZ sponsored 30 pupils from Shantumbu Primary School for an educational visit to the Chifwema Arboretum, where they learned about Zambiaโs tree species, environmental conservation and the role of trees in combating climate change.
LS-MFEZ Acting Managing Director Mrs. Inonge N. Gondwe and Director Technical and Planning Mr. Maxwell Zulu took time to interact with the pupils ahead of the educational tour, encouraging them to make the most of the learning experience.
Through initiatives such as these, we continue to promote environmental awareness and inspire the next generation to become champions of sustainability.

The LS-MFEZ Board and part of Management this morning conducted a site visit and brainstorming session to review development opportunities, land utilisation, infrastructure priorities and growth within the Zone.
Through regular site visits and engagement, we strengthen planning, identify growth opportunities and create greater value for our investors.
The team was led by Chairperson of the Board Mr. Boster Chiyaba, Chairperson of the Technical and Projects Committee Mr. Philip Muyumbana and Vice Chairperson of the Finance and Administration Committee, Mr. Chandrakant Tailor.
Together, we are building a World Class Sustainable City within a City.

Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development and JICA Hand Over USD100,000 Worth of Machinery to SMEs at Kafue Industrial Yard in the Lusaka South Multi Facility Economic Zone
Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development, Mr. Malama Mufunelo, officiated at the handover ceremony for specialised machinery and equipment valued at a combined USD100,000 under the Joint MSMED and JICA SMEs Empowerment Programme held at the Kafue Industrial Yard in the Lusaka South Multi Facility Economic Zone.
The handover ceremony was attended by JICA Chief Representative, Dr. ONO Tomoko, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Japan in Zambia, Mr. HORII Mizumoto, and other stakeholders.
The beneficiary companies, namely Bwikalo Embroidery and Screen Printing Limited, Sabs Agro General Dealers, Mupapa Wood Limited, Succulent Brands Limited, and Travium Supplies Limited, received machinery support to enhance production capacity, operational efficiency, and value addition.
The increased productivity and growth of beneficiary SMEs are expected to contribute to job creation, the expansion of industrial activity, and economic growth within the Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone, further strengthening the Zoneโs position as a growing hub for manufacturing, enterprise development, and investment in Zambia.

The Lusaka South Multi Facility Economic Zone (LS-MFEZ) participated in the Labour Day celebrations held in Lusaka on 1st May 2026, joining other institutions in commemorating the vital contribution of workers to Zambiaโs socio-economic development.
The event was officiated by the Vice President of the Republic of Zambia, Mutale W. K. Nalumango, under the theme: โSecuring Zambiaโs Future of Work: Protecting Jobs, Skills and Pensions for Decent Work for All.โ
The celebrations reflected a shared commitment to promoting decent work, productivity, and sustainable economic growth.
