BOTSWANA AND ZAMBIA TO STRENGTHEN MINING COLLABORATION
Botswana and Zambia are exploring strategic partnerships to boost mining investment, promote local manufacturing and accelerate regional industrialisation.
Speaking on behalf of the President of the Republic of Botswana, Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, at the Zambia Mining and Investment Insaka (ZAMII) in Lusaka on 19 October 2026, the Minister of Minerals and Energy, Hon. Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, called on Africa to move beyond exporting raw minerals and prioritise value addition, mineral processing and advanced manufacturing.
As part of this vision, Botswana and Zambia are partnering to develop a regional manufacturing ecosystem that leverages the two countriesโ mineral wealth, reduces reliance on raw material exports and promotes local value addition.
A key initiative is the proposed Kago Pamodzi Campus for Advanced Manufacturing and Validation, to be developed in Selebi-Phikwe, Botswana, with meaningful participation from Zambia.
The campus is envisioned as a regional manufacturing and engineering hub designed to meet the practical needs of mining operations. Its capabilities will include the production of castings and precision-machined components, fabrication, equipment refurbishment and repair, electronics, as well as product testing and certification.
Through this initiative, Botswana and Zambia aim to integrate their engineering capabilities, capital markets and energy sectors to help meet the regionโs growing mining industry demands while strengthening local industries and creating opportunities for sustainable economic growth.
This partnership reflects a shared commitment to transforming Africaโs mineral wealth into greater industrial capacity, economic opportunity and shared prosperity.
