This afternoon, we held a fruitful discussion with His Royal Highness Senior Chief Anang’anga Imwiko of Mwandi, Sesheke and Mulobezi Districts as we explore lasting solutions to the persistent truck congestion and unauthorised parking in our border town of Katima Mulilo.

Our discussion focused on various measures that can be implemented to address the growing challenge of heavy truck traffic and establish a more orderly and sustainable parking system.

The congestion has not only placed pressure on our road infrastructure but has also adversely affected local businesses, with improperly parked trucks obstructing shop frontages and making it difficult for business owners to operate effectively.

As Sesheke West, we recognise the urgent need for a coordinated approach involving relevant stakeholders to address this situation. Our goal is to promote the smooth flow of traffic, protect road infrastructure, support local businesses and restore order in our border town.

We remain committed to engaging traditional leadership and other key stakeholders to find a practical and lasting solution that will benefit the people of Katima Mulilo and the wider community.

Yesterday, we had engagement meetings with teachers at Sesheke Day Secondary School and Sesheke Boarding Secondary School where we interacted and discussed matters concerning education and the welfare of teachers in Sesheke West Constituency.

We value the important role teachers play in shaping the future of our children and contributing to the development of our district. Such engagements provide an opportunity to listen to their concerns, exchange ideas, and explore ways of improving the education sector.

We remain committed to working with our teachers and other stakeholders to promote quality education for all learners.

KATIMA CATTLE RANCHER LOSES FIVE CATTLE TO SUSPECTED THEFT

By Misebezi Emmanuel

A cattle rancher in Katima Mulilo, Sesheke District, has lost five cattle in a suspected case of livestock theft after twelve (12) animals went missing over the weekend.

The cattle reportedly went missing on Saturday, prompting the owner, Mr. Akane Mbangweta, to report the matter to the police and begin a search for the missing animals.

Following a joint search operation, seven of the twelve cattle were found alive on Monday, 28th September, in the bush near the Namibia-Zambia border.

However, the search continued for the remaining five cattle, which were discovered today as carcasses in an advanced state of decomposition in the bush along the boundary between Katima Mulilo, Zambia, and Katima Mulilo, Namibia.

Police investigations are ongoing as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths and identify and bring to book those who may have been involved.

Livestock theft carries serious penalties under Zambian law. Under Section 282B of the Penal Code, a person convicted of stealing a bull, cow or ox faces a minimum of five years and a maximum of 15 years in prison for a first offence, while a second or subsequent offence attracts between 7 and 15 years imprisonment.

The offence of stock theft is also classified as non-bailable for second offenders under Zambia's criminal procedure framework.

Speaking about the loss to MISE Radio, Mr. Mbangweta described the incident as painful and difficult to bear, particularly given the value of the animals and the circumstances under which they were lost.

Authorities are expected to continue with investigations as efforts are made to establish whether the cattle were stolen and determine who was responsible.
