The first administrative center for Siavonga was set up at Lusitu during the colonial era. The center, known as Lusitu sub center was established to look into the welfare of the resettled people in the area after the construction of Kariba dam and the subsequent filling up of Lake Kariba. The District Commissioner based in Gwembe, the main administrative center supervised Lusitu sub center.
In April 1993, Siavonga was given the status of a district council. However, it was only in 1996 that the full district status was grated and the council stated functioning independently from Gwembe.
Siavonga was given the constituency status in 1973 and in the same year, elections were held. Hon: Sailas Moonga became the first Area Member of Parliament for Siavonga Constituency under UNIP party from 1973 to 1978. He only served as a member of Parliament for one term. In an effort to get more information from the relatives of this great man, the office managed to talk to some relatives in Lusaka who described him as a man who dedicated his time for the people.

Siavonga MP purchases armyworm pesticides
By Lame Itisen
UPND Siavonga member of parliament Darius Mulunda has purchased 12,000 litres of pesticides used in the control of armyworms for farmers whose fields have been invaded by the ravaging pests.
Mulunda, who last week disclosed that Siavonga district had run out of pesticides for armyworms, said he had decided to purchase the chemicals so that farmers in his constituency could protect their fields and ensure a good yield this farming season.
"What has prompted me to buy the chemicals is because farmers are worried since their crops are being damaged and they see that government is not doing enough to help them with the chemicals. A lot of farmers are calling me everyday, so I have no option but to come in and help those in my constituency," Mulunda said.
He said he had since distributed the chemicals to affected farmers in all 10 wards of his constituency.
Mulunda said so far, 400 hectares of crops in Siavonga have been invaded by armyworms and that about 50,000 litres of chemicals were still needed to effectively control the pests.
He further said the money allocated by government to fight armyworms should be put to good use.
"People should not start pocketing this money. Large amounts of money have been allocated to control the armyworm crisis in the country. So let's see the results because what is important is to deliver to the demands of the people. If the money is still available, let's see it coming down to the people. You know the farmers received the farming inputs late and now comes the armyworm crisis. How do you expect farmers to survive? It's difficult," said Mulunda.
