CDF FUNDED GIRLS’ DORMITORY PROJECT AT SIAVONGA PROVINCIAL STEM SCHOOL ADVANCES TO 40% COMPLETION

Wednesday 20th May 2026, Siavonga District - Siavonga Constituency Community Development Fund (CDF) is currently financing the construction of a girls’ dormitory at Siavonga Provincial STEM School under the 2025 funding allocation, at a total project cost of K1.7 million. The project, which includes an industrial borehole, is designed to significantly improve boarding facilities and enhance access to quality STEM education for girls in the district.

The dormitory, with a capacity of 48 students, is currently at 40% completion and is scheduled for completion within the next three months. Works are progressing steadily in line with the implementation plan, following a joint site inspection by the District Commissioner, Mr. Geoffrey Jakopo, and Siavonga Town Council Secretary, Mr. Kennedy Shombo.

During the visit, the delegation expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of works being undertaken.

The District Commissioner, Mr. Geoffrey Jakopo, commended the project as a strategic investment in education and gender inclusion, noting that the facility will play a key role in improving retention and performance of girls in STEM subjects once completed. He urged the contractor to maintain quality standards and adhere strictly to the completion timeline.

Siavonga Town Council Secretary, Mr. Kennedy Shombo, emphasized the council’s commitment to ensuring that CDF projects deliver tangible community benefits. He stated that the dormitory project reflects government’s continued effort to bridge infrastructure gaps in learning institutions and called for timely completion in line with expectations.

The contractor on site assured the visiting delegation that works are progressing according to schedule, highlighting that key structural components have already been completed. The contractor further reaffirmed commitment to delivering a high-quality facility within the stipulated three month timeframe.

Headteacher, Mr. Miyoba Njoomona, expressed gratitude for the intervention, noting that the new dormitory will significantly ease accommodation challenges currently faced by learners. He stated that the facility will improve the school’s capacity to enroll and support more girls, particularly those coming from distant parts of the district.

Once completed, the project is expected to strengthen the learning environment at Siavonga Provincial STEM School and contribute meaningfully to improved educational outcomes for girls in the district.

Siavonga District Returning Officer, Mr. Stephen Mbita, has officially closed the Nomination Centre for today.

All aspiring candidates who were unable to come through today are hereby informed that the Nomination Centre will reopen tomorrow from 09:00hrs to 15:00hrs to allow eligible candidates to successfully file in their nominations.

Candidates are encouraged to ensure that all nomination requirements and supporting documents are in order before presenting themselves at the centre.

SIAVONGA DISTRICT ELECTORAL OFFICER INSPECTS NOMINATION CENTRES AHEAD OF 2026 NOMINATION EXERCISE

Tuesday, 19th May 2026 ; Siavonga - Siavonga District Electoral Officer, Mr. Kennedy Shombo, today conducted an inspection tour of all the twelve (12) Ward Nomination Centres in readiness for the forthcoming nomination exercise for the 2026 electoral process.

The inspection was aimed at assessing the preparedness of the designated centres and ensuring that all logistical and administrative arrangements are in place ahead of the commencement of nominations.

Mr. Shombo expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness recorded across the district and reaffirmed the Electoral Commission’s commitment to conducting a smooth, transparent and credible nomination process.

The nomination exercise will commence with National Assembly nominations on Wednesday, 20th May 2026 at Siavonga High School. This will be followed by Council Chairperson nominations on Thursday, 21st May 2026, also at the aforementioned venue.

Thereafter, nominations for other elective positions will be conducted at the designated nomination centres across all the twelve wards in accordance with the official nomination schedule issued by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.

The Office of the District Electoral Officer has since urged all aspiring candidates, election agents and stakeholders to familiarize themselves with the nomination requirements, schedules and designated venues in order to facilitate an orderly and efficient process.

PERMANENT SECRETARY TABOH KAWANA COMMENDS QUALITY OF NEWLY CONSTRUCTED SIAVONGA POLICE POST

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Media, Taboh Kawana, today inspected the newly constructed police post in Siavonga District and expressed satisfaction with the quality, workmanship and overall appearance of the facility.

The inspection followed a courtesy call by the Permanent Secretary on Siavonga District Commissioner, Geoffrey Jakopo, during his visit to the district.

Speaking during the inspection, Mr. Kawana commended the collaborative efforts that led to the successful completion of the project, describing the police post as a significant investment towards strengthening security infrastructure and improving service delivery within the district.

The police post was constructed with funding through the Ministry Home Affairs and Internal security at a total cost of K 18.6 million, while furniture for the facility was procured using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Mr. Kawana expressed delight at both the structural standards and aesthetics of the newly completed facility, noting that the development reflects Government’s continued commitment to improving public infrastructure and enhancing the working environment for law enforcement officers.

He further urged officers and members of the community to take responsibility for maintaining and safeguarding the facility in order to preserve its value and ensure that it continues serving the people of Siavonga effectively for many years to come.

The infrastructure that Government continues to provide across the country must be protected and properly maintained. This facility is not only an investment in security but also a symbol of development and improved public service delivery for the people of Siavonga,” Mr. Kawana said.

The construction of the police post is expected to contribute significantly to improved policing services, enhanced community safety and increased operational efficiency for law enforcement officers within the district.

Siavonga Town Council Secretary, Mr. Kennedy Shombo was part of the delegation that inspected the facility among others .
