CCZ conducted a consumer education outreach today at WIRSP Global College in Damofalls in commemoration of World Food Safety Day. The engagement provided pupils with an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of food safety principles, including safe food handling, hygiene practices, and the importance of consuming safe and properly handled food.

Actors in the food value chain have been tasked with a shared responsibility of ensuring food safety in the country. Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) CEO Rosemary Mpofu says CCZ is observing and receiving consumer complaints relating to food safety risks in the marketplace including expired products on shelves; poor storage conditions; and inadequate hygiene in food handling environments. Mpofu said there is a need to strengthen systems, enforcement, and promote consumer awareness.
