*"Our Strength is Our Women"*
_A Story of Unity in Mhondoro-Ngezi_
_By Hon. Tavengwa Mukuhlani & Hon. Abie Gava_

---

Last Saturday, in our Ward , the sun rose over Mhondoro-Ngezi and found something different happening at the community hall.

There were no speeches behind big tables. There were no long lines.
Instead, there were plastic chairs in a circle. There was tea. There was laughter.
And in that circle were *the women of Mhondoro-Ngezi* — amai vemusika, vadzidzisi, varimi, madzimai emapurazi, and daughters who are the future.

This month, *Hon. Abie Gava and I, Hon. Tavengwa Mukuhlani*, made a decision.
We said: _“If Mhondoro-Ngezi is going to grow, it will not be because of Hon. Mukuhlani. It will not be because of Hon. Gava. It will be because of US ALL. And it starts with our women.”_

So we are going to *every ward*. Ward 1 to Ward 13.

Not to talk _at_ you. To sit _with_ you.

*Why the Gatherings?*
1. *To Value You*: For too long the voice of our mothers, sisters and daughters has been heard last. This month, it is heard first. We value you. We see the gardens you tend, the children you raise, the businesses you run with $2 capital, the churches you hold together.
2. *To Hear You*: At each ward, we open the floor. “Amai, what is troubling you?” Is it water? Is it clinic drugs? Is it mining dust? Is it market space? We write it down. We don’t promise miracles. We promise to carry your concerns to the right places and to fight for you.
3. *To Unite You*: We do "Meet and Greet". Woman from Village A meets woman from Village B. The chairlady from one area shares how she started her poultry project. Another shares how she got help for her daughter’s school fees. Suddenly, wards stop being separate. They become *one Mhondoro-Ngezi*.
4. *To Empower Each Other*: We are bringing skills, information on health, on grants, on farming, and on protecting each other from abuse. When one woman rises, she pulls 10 others with her.

In Ward 3 last week, Gogo Mai Chuma stood up. She is 67. She said, _“For years we waited for leaders to come. Today leaders came and sat on the ground with us. I feel valued.”_
That is the Mhondoro-Ngezi we are building.

*The Truth We Believe*
*_For Mhondoro-Ngezi to be what it is, it is NOT Honourable Mukuhlani.
It is NOT Honourable Gava.
It is YOU. It is US ALL.__

Unity is not a speech. Unity is a woman from Ward 3 helping a woman from Ward 12 sell her tomatoes.
Unity is when we decide that no woman in our constituency will suffer in silence.
Unity is believing that *in oneness, we can create a better Mhondoro-Ngezi* — with better clinics, better schools, better markets, and safer homes.

*This Month, We Celebrate You*
August is Women’s Month. But for us in Mhondoro-Ngezi, we are making it personal.
*To every woman in every ward: We celebrate you.*
For your strength. For your prayers. For holding families when times are hard. For being the backbone of our homes and our economy.

Keep coming to the gatherings. Bring your neighbour. Bring your ideas.
This is your platform. This is your constituency.

Because when women are strong, Mhondoro-Ngezi is strong.

*Baba, Amai, Hama neShamwari dzeMashonaland West,*

It is with a very heavy heart that I address you today following the *boat tragedy that occurred on Lake Kariba yesterday*.

My heart is broken for the families who lost loved ones. To the mothers, fathers, children, and relatives who are mourning, please know that *Mhondoro-Ngezi stands with you, and Mash West stands with you*. We grieve with you.

To those who survived, and to the rescue teams who worked through the night, we thank God for your lives and for your courage. We are praying for the speedy recovery of those in hospital.

In times like these we are reminded that life is precious, and that we are one people. Whether in Kariba, Mhondoro, Chegutu, or Chinhoyi — your pain is our pain.

Let us turn to each other in love during this dark time. Let us support the bereaved families with food, with prayers, and with presence. Government, through the Civil Protection Unit and local leadership, is working with all stakeholders to ensure families are supported and that we account for everyone.

Do not lose hope. God is close to the brokenhearted. We will get through this together.

*: LET US END COMPLACENCY*
But comrades, we must also speak truth to each other in love.
Too many of these tragedies happen because we become *complacent*.

I therefore urge all of us in *Kariba, and across Mash West* who use our dams, rivers, and boats:

1. *Always wear a life jacket* – No trip is too short. It saves lives.
2. *Do not overload boats* – Check capacity and respect it.
3. *Avoid night travel and bad weather* – The lake is not forgiving.
4. *Ensure boats are licensed and seaworthy* – Regular checks save lives.
5. *No alcohol while operating or travelling on boats* – A clear mind saves lives.

To boat operators, to fishermen, to tourists, to school children: *Safety is not optional. It is a responsibility we owe to our families.*

Let us get rid of the “zvichafamba” attitude. Yesterday’s tragedy must be our last warning.

To the people of *Kariba*: We see you. We are with you.
To the people of *Mashonaland West*: Let us be our brother’s keeper.
To the people of *Mhondoro-Ngezi*: Let us pray for Kariba today, and let us check our own safety measures at home, at work, and on the road.

May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace. May God give strength to the families, and wisdom to all of us going forward.

*Together, let us choose life. Let us choose safety. Let us choose each other.*

The President's thoughtful gesture towards persons with disabilities has brought to mind a remarkable young lady from Mhondoro Ngezi. Despite her disabilities, she is a dedicated supporter of ZANU PF, attending all party gatherings and functions.

Her unwavering commitment and resilience are truly inspiring, and we acknowledge her contributions to our party. We will ensure that she receives the necessary support and recognition she deserves. The President's actions have reminded us of her story, and we are grateful for the opportunity to recognize her dedication.

*A Message of Appreciation*

To His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa,

We, the people of Zimbabwe, extend our heartfelt gratitude for your tireless efforts in empowering persons with disabilities. The presentation of cars to ambassadors of the disabled community is a testament to your commitment to inclusivity and equality.

We also acknowledge the instrumental role played by Honourable Tino Machakaire in making this initiative a reality. Your dedication to the cause is truly commendable.

This act of kindness is a reflection of the spirit of giving that has swept across our nation, inspired by the generosity of Sir Wicknell Chivhayo. As the Bible says, "It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35). Your leadership has created a ripple effect, encouraging others to give and make a difference in the lives of those around us.

May God bless you, Honourable Tino Machakaire, and all those who have contributed to this noble cause.
