The Masvingo 2026 Agricultural Show was officially opened by Deputy Minister of Energy and Power Development, Hon. Yeukai Simbanegavi, with more than 150 exhibitors showcasing a wide range of products, services and innovations under the theme “Facilitating Trade for Economic Growth.”
In her keynote address, Hon. Simbanegavi commended farmers, exhibitors, businesses, Government departments and other stakeholders for making the show possible, describing agriculture as a key pillar of Masvingo’s economy. She said the exhibition provides an important platform for showcasing products, building business partnerships, accessing markets and attracting investment.
She highlighted Masvingo’s agricultural potential, noting that the province produced about 293,678 metric tonnes of cereals during the 2025/26 season, against a requirement of 196,624 tonnes, resulting in a surplus of approximately 97,054 tonnes. She called for increased investment in irrigation, mechanisation, climate-smart agriculture, value addition and market linkages.
Hon. Simbanegavi also urged farmers to increase production of traditional grains such as sorghum, pearl millet and finger millet, while encouraging investors to expand local processing and value addition in agriculture, mining and other sectors.
She said improved infrastructure, tourism development, support for MSMEs and stronger linkages between agriculture, mining, manufacturing and tourism are critical to Masvingo’s ambition of building a US$8 billion provincial economy by 2030.
She further called on citizens to promote responsible behaviour, including road safety, while combating drug and substance abuse, gender-based violence, child abuse and child marriages.
Hon. Simbanegavi concluded by declaring the 2026 Masvingo Provincial Agricultural Show officially open, urging stakeholders to “produce more, trade more, process more, invest more and create more opportunities” for the people of Masvingo.
