The Consulate General of the Republic of Mauritius in Dubai draws the attention of Mauritian nationals to the attached Alert Notice issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade regarding the security situation in Iran and the Gulf region.

Yesterday 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐤𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐡𝐮𝐧 𝐆.𝐂.𝐒.𝐊 attended The Ministerial Meeting at the 10th annual World Free Zones Organisation (𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐅𝐙𝐎) Congress at Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai. Under the name “𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐈 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝟐.𝟎.”

The Ministerial Meeting was chaired by 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐃𝐫. 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢 𝐛𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐥 𝐙𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐝𝐢, 𝐔𝐀𝐄 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞, and it included other dignitaries like 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐃𝐫. The Ministerial Meeting aims to explore the impact of these zones in supporting national economies, facilitating trade exchanges, enhancing the digital economy, fostering commercial transactions, and attracting foreign investments.

𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐤𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐡𝐮𝐧 𝐆.𝐂.𝐒.𝐊., 𝐀𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐮𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐀𝐄 met with 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐤𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐣𝐢𝐝 𝐀𝐥 𝐌𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚, 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐬-𝐄𝐦𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞.
During the meeting they reviewed 𝐄𝐦𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 role in supporting and promoting tourism in 𝐌𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐮𝐬. Investments opportunities in 𝐌𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐮𝐬 were also discussed.

This week 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐤𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐡𝐮𝐧 𝐆.𝐂.𝐒.𝐊. , 𝐀𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐮𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐀𝐄 met with 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐌𝐨𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐟 𝐀𝐥 𝐒𝐮𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐝𝐢, 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐛𝐮 𝐃𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐢 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐀𝐃𝐅𝐃). During the meeting, they discussed the excellent collaboration between Mauritius and 𝐀𝐃𝐅𝐃 in the health and infrastructure sectors which included the construction of the 𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐢è𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐦 Project and the 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐄𝐲𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥. They also broached upon new projects which could be envisaged, in the future, including the installation of Fuel storage tanks in Mauritius.

𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐤𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐡𝐮𝐧 𝐆.𝐂.𝐒.𝐊. , 𝐀𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐮𝐬 and 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐌𝐨𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐦𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐣𝐚𝐡 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞 had a meeting on 31st July 2024 with the coordination of the (𝐄𝐃𝐏), to discuss the cooperation between two countries after the success of the signature of the 𝐂𝐄𝐏𝐀 between 𝐌𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐮𝐬 and 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐀𝐄.

On 22 July 2024 The 𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐆𝐎𝐁𝐈𝐍 and 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐃𝐫. 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢 𝐛𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐥𝐙𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐝𝐢 signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (𝐂𝐄𝐏𝐀) between 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐮𝐬 and the 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐫𝐚𝐛 𝐄𝐦𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬.

The ceremony was witnessed by the 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐊𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐫 𝐉𝐮𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡, 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐮𝐬, and 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐤𝐡 𝐌𝐨𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐝 𝐀𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐦, 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐔𝐀𝐄.

The agreement aims to enhance the flow of trade and investments between the two countries and facilitate investment opportunities in various key sectors.

The Honourable Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, visited Dubai on 20 February 2024 and had meetings with the following dignitaries of the United Arab Emirates:

•H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior

•H.E. Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

•H.E. Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade

•H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline & Group

The following officials also called on the Hon. Prime Minister in Dubai:

•H.E. Rashid Abdulla Al Qaseer, Deputy Director, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dubai Office.

•Mr. Thomas Pramotedham, CEO of Presight AI (G42).

The meetings were all very cordial and discussions aimed at strengthening the bilateral and trade ties between Mauritius and the United Arab Emirates and also delved into possible areas of collaboration with a view to sustaining the development of our country.

The fields of interest which were discussed by the Hon. Prime Minister included security (collaboration at the level of the Police), surveillance of our EEZ, the maritime sector, airport, aviation, renewable energy and AI amongst others. The transportation of Mauritian Pilgrims for Hajj was also evoked.

The Hon. Prime Minister raised the possibility for an early signature of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Mauritius and the UAE, negotiations of which were concluded in December 2023 in Mauritius.

The Hon. Prime Minister was accompanied by Mr. Premode Neerunjun, Secretary to Cabinet and Head of the Civil Service, H.E. Showkutally Soodhun G.C.S.K., Ambassador of Mauritius to the UAE and GCC, Mr. Kavish Pultoo, Senior Adviser in Communication and Strategic Matters of the Hon Prime Minister, and Mr. Pravass Purmanund, First Secretary, at the meetings.

𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐤𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐡𝐮𝐧 𝐆.𝐂.𝐒.𝐊., Ambassador of the Republic of Mauritius to the United Arab Emirates, paid a courtesy call on 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐤𝐡 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐡𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐁𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐚𝐡𝐲𝐚𝐧 𝐁𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐮𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐤 𝐀𝐥 𝐍𝐚𝐡𝐲𝐚𝐧, 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐎𝐟 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐔𝐀𝐄.

Discussions between the Ambassador and H.E. Minister of State focused on reinforcing the existing bilateral relations between the Mauritius and UAE as well as the possible avenues of cooperation.

The negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Mauritius and the UAE concluded on 22 December 2023 with the signature of a Joint Statement in Port Louis.

It is a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between the two countries. H.E. Ambassador Showkutally Soodhun G.C.S.K. had worked diligently for the past 4 months on this project, to make it a success.

It is the first time the UAE is entering into such a partnership with an African country. It is a formal agreement that outlines the terms and conditions for economic cooperation between the two countries.

This agreement is expected to bring about numerous benefits for both sides. It will create opportunities for increased investments, trade, and exchange of goods and services between Mauritius and the UAE. This collaboration will boost economic growth and contribute to the development of both nations.

Discussions between the Hon Prime Minister and H.E. Minister of State for Foreign Trade, focused on reinforcing the existing bilateral relations between Mauritius and UAE as well as the possible avenues of cooperation.

The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and cooperation between Mauritius and the United Arab Emirates.
