Looks like the future is getting more plant-based ππ
In April 2026, the Netherlands Nutrition Centre launched its updated Wheel of Five, reflecting the latest science on health, sustainability and food safety β and the message is clear:
π§ Drink enough fluids, such as water, tea, and coffee
π Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables
π« Choose soft or liquid spreadable fats and cooking oils
πΎ Prefer whole grain products like whole-grain bread, pasta, couscous, and brown rice
π± Eat less meat and include more plant-based foods
π₯ Vary your diet with fish, pulses, nuts, eggs, and vegetarian products
Some of the biggest changes include:
π’ Legumes, tofu & tempeh increasing to 250g/week
π΄ Meat recommendations decreasing from 500g to 300g/week
π A stronger focus on healthier diets that also support the planet
Pulses continue to gain recognition as a key part of healthy and sustainable food systems β offering nutrition, versatility and lower environmental impact.
So you might as well join the trendβ¦ and add more pulses to your plate! π
